This is really like a public service announcement.

Not starting drama or *****ing about ebay.

I just hate seeing people piss away their hard earned money.

We all are willing to pay top dollar for the real stuff, but this is ridiculous.

Another great service for us HAMBers....E-Bay Watch Dog...these kids of sellers need to be called out..'cause all it does is drive up the cost of us guys trying to build a car. I wonder if you signed on to e-bay and sent the guy who is selling that pedal a message saying you can get um at speedway for 56 bucks if it would get posted in the questions column?

I constantly see the rajah spark plug connectors on ebay sell for two to three times the price you can buy them from Electronic suppliers.
    One thing bad about ebay..
The search function is so easy. ALot easier to find a part you're looking for vs. going through page after page of a website or catalogue.

I think this example is just the tip of the iceberg. I have often wondered whether that "NOS original part" offered on ebay is really something someone made in their garage last month. One way to help authenticate the item is to sell it in the original box, but I suspect guys will get a box and build the part - then turn it over for big profit. Its pure fraud, and we should jump all over it.

I agree ss34coupe..its total ********..and it should be called out.!

  14. Are the ebay items "real vintage Offenhauser", and the Speedway "just a copy"? I'm glad I saw this, that's a cool pedal, I think I will get one, for $54, unless it's a Chinese copy...

I know this is an O/T tangent but a lot of you are into period houses and furnishings too and Haywood-Wakefield furniture is high on the must have list... Well, it's being "re-popped" at the reopened original(?) factory so don't pay inflated "antique" prices for "copies" or what you can still buy new.
Personally, I think if it quacks like a H-W it is...

I'm at a loss here. Why should these sellers be called out? If I go and buy a part that I'm not going to use, throw it on E-Bay to sell, do you really think that I would need to tell all prospective bidders that they could get the same part at Speedway (***uming of course that I knew that info) for $56 bucks? If bidders want to slug it out for a part they can get for way cheaper, that shouldn't be my problem to police their stupidity.

I can see calling someone out though if a person is representing something that is original, when obviously it is a repop, but not because the bidders want to throw their money way!

In defense of the guy with the current auction, before you "jump all over it" and call it fraud, if you click on the bids, you'll see that bidding started at $10. This guy cleaned up what he had, but it on the bay, and the *****s started bidding it up right off the bat.

Alot different than someone trying to rip off bidders...

    Talk about dishonest sellers

The second huy even concocted a story: "I was digging through an old box of my dads part....I sand blasted, and replaced the hardware..."

    Karma is a *****!

    Merry Christmas!

I had the same thing happen to me. I had one of those skull hood orniments with a 8" wing off the back and cheesy red jeweld eyes that Moon sells. An EX girlfrined bought it for me. I hated it. When we broke up I threw it on ebay. It went for like 350.00...you can still buy em new for 40 or 50 bucks :D
The guy wrote me afterwords telling me how happy he was to have "finally" found one!
I stareted the auction at .99 with no reserve.

they're not being called out, he was merely pointing out that Speedway has that pedal and don't get caught up in the spirit of the auction. I for one applaud him for it. I haven't looked at a Speedway catalog in a while so didn't even notice that they had them.

Guys, the ***le of my post is for YOU to do your homework.

I never said the sellers are doing anything illegal.

I'm pointing out the ignorance of some ebay buyers and hope you dont fall into the same situation.

However, I would question the business ethics of some sellers......

I know a lot of "fellow hot rod builders" who are complete & total ***holes. If they were stupid enough to pay that kind of $$ for something, I'd take their $$ in a heartbeat.

If I put a pair of headlights on Ebay that I want to bring $100 & they hit $225 should I refund $125 just because they winner was a "fellow hot rod builder"? Hell no. I have enough **** of my own to worry about to start worrying about some dumb***es on Ebay.

ShakeyP isn't calling the guy out, just reminding us to buy smart.

It's no different than what happens at a live auction. People running bids higher than new price. Happens everyday!

I'll be honest and say if I saw a part at a swap and it was priced at half what it's worth, I wouldn't offer twice the asking price.
