Anybody have pictures of customized `39- `40 Ford sedans with the full custom treatment? Saw a cool one in the new "Hot Rod Deluxe" magazine. It was channeled and the fenders were raised up on the body, hood pancaked etc. Anyone have an interesting one? Let's have a look.

  3. No responses 'cause there is no such thing as a "good looking" customized '39-'40 Ford. Don't care what body style you're talking about, except for a slight chop on a pickup cab. Even that's not worth the trouble.

This a '39 ford sedan we built about 10 years ago... Its a Mild custom. Shaved door handles, frenched attena, fenched taillights, removed the bumpers ...

  15. I think a fordor '39 is not a great car to customize, so I don't see prob to cut it.

There are many job on this car and I like that.

There are many kustoms that lose 2 doors and many inches of roof, channeled, sectionned...
    I like that :D

Here are two more very early built 1939-40 Ford sedan customs

First one with a heavy chop... and high on its feet indicating an early 40's custom.

The second one scanned by Paul Kelly is dated 1961, but it looks more to me that the film roll has been devoloped much later than the photo was taken.
The 40 Ford itself looks to be built in the late 40's with its smooth mild body work and super small taillights mounted on the 1947 Ford bumper... and a super low stance. These sedans dont need much to look really cool.

And I know this post is about 39-40 Ford Sedans...
But some time ago I Designed a car that I one day hope to built for myself. based on a 1939 Mercury Sedan. Sure the lines are a little different than a 39-40 Ford... but I think it demonstrates these sedans can look very good.

Here is the photo that I started with.

And this will be my dream custom one day... There will be some carfull cutting of the top needed to get the lines all flowing right... but I sure like the looks of it. all styled as if it could have been built in the mid/late 40's

And I also wanted to see how it looked with a heavy chop and full fadeaway fenders.. perhaps something Sam Barris could have built in the early 50's

Only to say that modifieddriver (12-18-2007) is completely wrong when he says that one can not make a nice custom out of a 39 or 40 Ford. Look to all those pictures and especialy those from Rik Hoving (more than 100!) wich are from the forties and fifties!
I have bought myself a 1939 Deluxe 2 door sedan in Spain from the Razzlers, wich came originaly from Argentina. I think it is one of the nicest body styles ever made!

  22. Well, I've looked at the pics on this thread and haven't seen one car I'd trade either of my '40 Deluxe coupes, my '40 pickup, my '40 Coupe oval track race car or my '39 Deluxe 2-door for.

I think I'm in with the majority that thinks it's hard to improve on the body style. Could be wrong, but I don't think so .

Anybody know what was used for the bumper and what the bumper overider is that was used in the pic that loco louie posted? This is a great thread, alot of good ideas. I think the tudor sedan is an underated body style in my own opinion. later shawn
