As if you weren't a hero already, this picture is entirely too cool for words.

This summer i spend most of my friday and saternights at one place or another. There was one spot that was hot early in the year right by my buddys shop. it worked out great we could fuck with the cars there all night and when 1 am or so hit it was time to go race.

a few years ago French road in Detroit was real hot. it runs along City airport in a real choice neighborhood of Detroit. Hopefully this summer get as active as last year. it was cool to see a big resugance this summer cause the last few years have been real dead cause all the little honda guys wrecking and shit.

French road is great though. the cops show up at 1:50 every night like clock work. roll thru and every one leaves and chills at the gas station a few miles away. at 2:30 the cops leave and we all come back till sun rise.

I ran my 67 camaro there a bunch last summer but i dont think i ever won a race with it. But its getting a new motor and a 4 speed this summer so i hope to get some more action in. at best most cars run low 14,s there but its fun any way. i did race a donk in my 51 ford and won though so that was funny. nothing like a 84 cutlass doing burn out with 26" rims haha

  3. I haven't been to French since 91 or 92. It was awesome! I guess it had been a popular place to race for years prior to that. The best races were theones around the corner right on Van Dyke. I remember a couple of pro streeters lining up and just as they did their burnouts, up rolled the cops. There must have been about 500 people running in every direction (haha). What great times...

I'll have to shoot out there this summer if I get a chance. Just for old-times sake :)

yea i actually ran that donk thing on vandyke. they just repaved it and its all nice and smooth from 6 mile to 8 mile. french gets a little outa hand at times with guys doing doughnuts and acting like assholes but its still jumping most weekend nights. but ive noticed it going down way later then past years now. like after 3 or so

  5. Awesome man... I'll have to keep a lookout for your ride. Is that Camaro what you bring out ther now, or do you have something else?

    I won't be racing myself. Don't have anything race-worthy :(

But I'll be out there in my 70 Polara (green) or my daily (flamed Dakota)

If you see me rolling by try to get my attention. Just yell "HAMBER" or something stupid like that (haha)

Used to race this pile, in San Diego in the early-mid 90s... right at the beginning of the import craze. That pretty much killed it for me.

Back then it was silver and all jacked up in the rear, with appliance mags all the way around. Very 70s looking. Looked even more like a beater back then, but was fast and though I didn't race a ton, I rarely if ever got beat by street cars.

I moved to Sioux Falls SD to stay with my uncle for the summer of 1984.They had a place to cruise called "The Loop". From there we went out to "bridge to bridge" to race. My Vega (easy now I was junior in high school) could hold its own it ran low 12s in street trim. Go ahead with the scoop and sunglass jokes.......wow

    Kermit has proof.

He got a ticket in Madfson Wi for doing 115 mph in a 30. He backed up the run with a 78mph in a 30, same street.....I guess it was the wind.

Last time I went to the illegal races I saw some dude get shot up, before that I watched an over-torqued chevy fly into a group of people, before that time we got hassled by the cops (no BEATINGS though) and before that we almost got jumped... (long stories, all of 'em)

    so no...
    I've never streetraced...

The I-90 floating bridge was the street racing venue of choice
in Seattle in the early 50's.
No traffic late at night in those days.
One guy lost his hood over the railing into the lake once.

San Antonio report from the sixties: Like the guy said, "13's felt like 10's when you were side by side on a pitch black two lane blacktop at midnight!
We called it "Little Green Valley" - now it's suburb city. We knew ten routes out there so the cops wouldn't spot 30+ cars in a caravan. Money changed hands and a few sucker punches too. I'll leave the names out cause some are citizens now :)

Serious hardware for the times; 427-55 Chevy's, lots of BB Camaros, a 427 FE Falcon, a nasty altered wheel base 37 Chevy truck w/BB and Art Carr Torque Flight, and the most feared of all - a nut case named Edgar that made fuckin' magic power out of his small block Chevy's. "Owner, Driver, Builder's" indeed.
My part, I got to take all their hot girl friends home before midnight and get back to wave a starting light occasionally. Good times at the grace of the Gods.

Any S.A. geezers still out there?

  27. Yea we street raced back in the 80's. but like was said earlier, on back (flat) roads, unfinished new highway extensions. Not in residential areas or at f-in rush hour traffic. Around here, those days are gone, besides, with the amount of tracks we have in my area, you'd be an Idiot to not go to one and a pussy if you wouldn't follow. Anyway, This is how I do it in MD.

no idea if it's the same car, or not:

sometime around maybe '89 or '90, i remember an '82-86 supra with a twin turbo V8 in it... red, but had stock alloys. don't remember the guy ever opening the hood, but knew the guy who smogged it for him.
saw it a couple times at the san fernando street races... pretty quiet, *very* quick.
if i remember correctly, the guy got arrested one of the times.
