i know several ladies on this board that know their stuff, and that have very nice cars. it's really hard to lump any group of women or men for that matter, into one pile. we are all different. i know most of you have seen these pics before but here they are again to prove a point. here's my wife elena's far from stock 49 buick sedanette. the 455 buick motor makes it far from slow too. dan
Elena's Buick is sweet and knowing the story makes it even sweeter. I hope to see it in person someday (maybe next Turkey Run). Have a Merry Christmas!
sorry guys i really had no intention of offending anyone here, i really just can't say i've seen very many girls driving cars that actually catch my eye, personally i think 60's cars are boring, i didn't mean to assume that every girl is like that, so my apologies to those i've offended
Sled- I didn't see the original post, but I get the impression that it was stronger than the edited version. Something must have gotten Denise riled up. That doesn't come easy, or often. That's not to say you shouldn't stand by your opinion, but I hope you can see where it wasn't quite called for. Check out this post from a while ago with some samples of what some of the ladies are driving. Ladies'_rides Maybe you can see a couple in there that will "catch your eye". There's a lot of gals building, wrenching and driving cars these days. Some you'll like and some you won't. Just like guys' cars. Hopefully, the Belles will accept your apology so we can get this kick ass thread back on track! Maybe, changing the "sorry guys" to "sorry ladies" would help them do so.
There was a thread in the Tech Archive of a woman, I believe in Austrailia, who built a Model A, chopped the top, did it all. A search didn't find it.
Why would it be a surprise that a "women" chopped a car and did all the work by herself. 99% of us guys would not go thru childbirth without complaining about it, every single minute, of it. My wife, started using my tig welder and she laid down a really nice bead within two hours, it took me and most guys I know a hell of a lot longer, to accomplish that. I think girls rule and "out"rule us, guys, when they get into it.
Not a surprise, but just really cool. I have met many women good welders; makes sense because they have better hand/eye co-ordination than us.
2 woman trained me when I started as a hand welder (as opposed to automatic machine weld) in Pratt& Whitney Aircraft from never having seen a tig machine they had me certified in 2 weeks!for 2 different operations on jet engine parts .Both ladies started in Pratt during WWII and never left .I was trained by Rosie the welder! There are many manual jobs woman are more suited to than a man and this is recognized in Industry.Do you know that NASA will only use woman for some operations in construction of the space shuttles?this was fought by some men and with all the documentational research NASA had the men lost, those jobs can be legally reserved for woman only
While these are perfectly valid points, I like to see pictures of what people have and 'hear' about what they are driving / building. I'm still fairly new so for those of us that haven't been here as long as some, I would welcome pictures and updates. I realise that I'm being fairly cavalier with Ryan's bandwidth and server space by asking for this, but I believe it to be on topic and relevant (regardless of the gender of those involved).
I have, used the search function, sometimes even successfully. But there is quite alot out there that either I (and probably others) don't know to look for, or are unable to find (hey look, the search came back with something this time, too bad it brought the library of congress with it). Not raggin' on the search function here, it seems to work better than most I have seen, but what's wrong with current stuff? Like Rajo headed Chevies maybe? Seems I recall SOMEONE bought a Chev with the only running Rajo head setup left on the planet. Seems I recall that was a woman, here on the HAMB too, go figure. Doesn't that qualify for this thread, not even a link? Cmon, not even a little one like this? Had to use the search feature to find it again too.
I select the address bar and copy it, then in the 'advanced' reply I select the text I want to link and hit the globe with the chain link on it (right below the white smily) and paste the link in, remember to delete the http:// that is already there, or the link doesn't work, ask me how I know.
That is the truth! My mom was more help to me in the garage than my weight lifter brother when I was young.-MIKE
The point Brandy and I were making is, lots of us girls on here have been around so long that most know exactly who we are, what we drive and every little bit and piece that got us there. I'm am certainly not going to make a new post every so often because a bunch of newbies don't know what I drive. If they hang out long enough they should be able to put two and two together. As far as the Rajo conversion goes, if someone read enough to remember the thread and it was from a girl then they actually DID read the post and should have perhaps paid better attention to who wrote the thread and owns the car........it was ChevyGirlRox by the way. One more thing, if you realize someone is a girl on the board and you want to perhaps dig deeper into what they drive etc, then just click on their name which gives you their profile and click on post by and start reading their posts. Eventually you might find information on their car. I'll add another observation, there are lots of girls that lurk on the HAMB, how do I know this, cuz they come up to me at events and introduce themselves. They don't post at all, or very little, cuz of comments like those two, and others make. Not all girls are thick skinned and can "hang" with the tough guys in the "garage". MOST of you guys are very cool when a females post something but lots of the girls just don't want to take a chance of being "flamed" or ridaculed. Just keep that in mind the next time your making a comment directed at a female. Look how many came outta the woodwork on this thread. Sure would be nice if they hung out more often and made more comments on threads and posted the progress on their cars. You wanna keep them around or run them off??
I'm kinda pissed with the 2 Friggin' newbies talking Bullshit about the women that drive old cars,,some of the cars are not old enough,,others are to stock,,,and Falcons are gay? I have a stock Falcon,,,and that statement offends me,,, You two assclowns that seem to know everything don't even have a hot rod on the road!,,,most of these women do,,,,,so I'm with Denise,,GROW UP! ,,,,HRP BTW,,,this is an exact quote from ChopperMarks intro,,at least he posted one! "I am not here to talk shit. If I have actual knowledge to share I will post it. I know the people here are the real deal and hopefully I can learn something."
Someone needs to get in the kitchen and make me a sandwich...and knock those dishes out while you are in there. Oops, did I say that out loud? Just kidding, I think the majority of the guys on here respect the capabilities of all the H.A.M.B. ladies, along with all the other female hotrodders out there.
Yes, Hotrodladycrusr, I expect there are a lot of people (of both genders) that lurk and don't post for the very reasons you state. I was using the ChevyGirlRox / Rajo example as just that, an example (it's why I linked to her thread in my post). You post often enough it would be a criminaly negligent ovesight on my part if I hadn't heard of Big Olds by now (nice looking interior BTW). I was hoping for posts from others that do not post as regularly, that might be intimidated (for the reasons you state). Please don't misunderstand, I'm not saying I don't enjoy and appreciate your posts, because I do. I wouldn't expect people to randomly post what would ammount to a new intro, but this is a thread of 'Women in Hot Rodding' and I thought it was apropriate to ask if there were any women that could post something of their own. So I shall ask again, as I still believe it is relevent, are there any women out there that have an update or something that might fit in here? I for one would like to know. I have a hard time beliveing I'm the only one.
I completely agree and would also LOVE to see updates on the ladies rides. BTW, have you seen the intro on one of the new girls, Jess from Omaha? Check it out, her intro has a few photos of the hot rod she's building. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=228423
