COE COE Picture thread (imported from main board)

Discussion in 'Off Topic Hot Rods & Customs' started by Duration, Oct 30, 2007.

  1. Here's pics of my '47 Ford COE.

Plans are to create a vintage race car hauler for my '40 Ford oval track race car.

Want to put a ramp body on it. Still have to make up my mind if I want to put it on a later chassis. It would have to be a 1 ton step van or motor home chassis with duals on the rear axle.

I have been leaning toward using the stock chassis and replacing the flathead with a 406 SB Chevy. Adapt disc brakes to the stock front end and use a later rear end with 3.70 (something) gears.

My '83 C-30 454(now 462) big block with 3.78 gears and a granny geared 4-speed loves to cruise at 75-80 mph. Had that truck since '86. It has the JB8 HD brake option and stops great. It also loves gasoline , but what's the option? A monthly payment to save fuel costs. I don't think so :).

An old COE with a similar power train would be great on the highway. What do folks think??

Hell, I'd take that black GMC in the top pic and leave it pretty much as-is!

I love COE`s. I`ve always thought they were cool since I was a kid. Sorry, I don`t have any pics to contribute. The only COE pics I have have already been posted.

    Thanks for the info.

I was told the 40 COE still had the 39 grill and the 41-47 had the same grills. The 39-47 grill/hoods will interchange so it would be hard to tell year by grill alone. The 39 that I was trying to buy has different headlights then my 40. Not sure if there were different between deluxe and standards (if they had them at all).

  13. If ya' remember, 1940 was the first year for sealed beam head lights. That's where the difference is. '39 trucks had bulb & reflectors like a '36 Ford passenger car.

that belongs to Russ Moen and I believe he's makin' a camper out of it. His last update showed his one off fiberglass rear fenders and tail apron...

I don’t remember why anymore, but back in 1989 I got a wild hair and came up with this Mid-Engine, COE Bodied Race Truck, I****ume for some kind of circle track racing circuit concept that popped into my head???!! I guess I just designed it just for the heck of it! I called it "The Lump!"

Hey, why do we do any of this stuff? LOL

Hi Kooscoe, sorry I thought I answered this post.

I haven't done to much on the COE projects lately but I hope to get back on to them soon.
some plans have changed on them, first the 42 coe that is chopped and sectioned is now on a 1 ton chassis and will be made into my car hauler and the 35 coe is going on a small chassis and will get a 5" chopped top and will have a twin turbocharged 440 in it with 18" wide rear tires:D. thanks for the interest in my projects.
your coe and the video is very cool:cool: Ron...

I first saw that truck ten or twelve years ago at a local cruise. It was built (paid for) by a local guy named Al Packard, who was going to use it to promote his business. The business failed and his marriage followed. The truck left Washington soon after and has changed hands several times since.

I wasn't too excited by it when I saw it at the cruise, but I'd see it running down the road every once in a while and that was fun and I think what excited me about COE trucks.

The body work under the bed is from a Suburban or panel. Under the back of the bed is an access door based on a Suburban tailgate. They used three cabs to make the crew cab.

  25. Here's a fuzzy photo of one that my coffee buddy is building....it's a bagged '41 Ford.

You guys need to see the build pictures of that camper. There is a couple of pictures on here in a different thread with a link to his photo album. I'm not having any luck finding it. I'm thinking it was about 6 months ago and now thinking it might have been in with one of the camping trailer threads instead of a coe thread. That camper looks sharp when done and the detailed pictures of the build are awesome.
