I like most of you, I'm sure, got a DVD in the mail. I didn't order anything? Like most of the mail ads there are 15 dozen sheets of paper that won't let you get to the meat of the ad...HOW MUCH...without sorting through the pile. but in the pile is a sheet that says IN UNDERLINED BOLD TYPE "please follow these instructions carefully:"

You send me an unsolicited ad and then tell me to follow your directions???

Kiss my ass!!! Those are my unsolicited instructions.

Hot rod has been selling their mailing lists since the early 60's that I know of. Maybe longer, but when an ad came with my wrong middle initial I knew it came from the Hot Rod mailing list. That doesn't bother me. Some of them have actually worked when they made me aware of something new. This is different. They expect me to send the disk back (only if I pay careful attention to the instructions). I don't care if it IS prepaid.

I'd tell Teresa Pederson where to stick her DVD but she may actually be a real person and probably is only an employee of the dumb ass that thought this was a good marketing ploy. Well IT AIN'T

On the front it says Guarantee: NO HASSLES....BULL SHIT!

With out this public rant they probably couldn't force me to pay for it. They couldn't prove that I actually got it. That's not the point.

I hate junk mail. I hate phone ads. They are bad enough but don't send me anything with instructions for me to follow.

I've been getting some kind of Peterson publication since Dec. 1959. I now want to cancel Rod and Custom which has been my favorite since 1957.

I don't usually do rants. Nobody cares what tommy thinks anyway, but if the rest of the HAMB feels even partly as angry as I am maybe they will get the message and put an end to this type of shit. I'm not stupid enough to think that this rant will even remotely have an affect on junk mail but if they get the true picture of this type of advertising being destructive to their corporate name and image maybe they will rethink their ad campaigns. Yeah right! but it's worth a try. Isn't it?

BTW If you had presented it in a different way, I probably would have subscribed...not now.

I agree with everything you said....BUT..... take a deep breath, and another.....don't let them get to you. Watch it if you want, toss it if you want BUT don't let them get your blood pressure out of control.

  3. in the fine print it says that you are under no obligation to do anything and if you do not return it you do not have to pay for it. i agree , it's a crappy way of doing business

there just was another thread on this subject , you may want to do a search for it

my suggestion is to put it in your DVD player and enjoy it

In legal terms, unsolicited items you receive in the mail are "gifts". You do not have to pay for them or return them.

    Tommy,
get your roadster out....hold the right pedal down as close to the floor board as you can..........

    ok, everything alright now?

i look at them as a free DVD
besides...rod and custom has been pretty good lately for content
i figure the company is so spread out that the marketing people have no connections with the people who actually give you the info to read
they have some bozo's figuring out these great "scams" while the guys who matter have time to write some good articles

some of these smaller magazines try to combine it all together and end up with a sub par magazine i think
they dont have time for editing or being a bit more choosy when finding subject matter because they're busy with a bit too much on their plate trying to make the magazine go

who knows?....go drive the roadster...nothing else matters! :D

  9. Tommy, relax man, it is just a DVD. no one has charged your account, correct?

Hell, open it up and enjoy.

No one but you knows if you even received it...

If you truely don't want it, send it back or better yet give it to a young man who will look at it and who knows, maybe it will spark something and you will suceed in getting another young hotrodder interested in cars.

I to HATE junk mail. However, R&C is still hands down the best mag on the rack every month. I'll forgive them... this time.

While that will stop some of the offers and direct mail, the original writer of this thread has a "Business Relationship" with Ptereson Publishing. Peterson Publishing has every right to peddle your name and information to anyone who wants to buy it. If they belong to a co-op ( a data company that collects data) any company in that co-op can have access to that information. The co-op companies ( of which I work for...sorry )have not only you name and address but they will also have a complete history of your credit card transactions . The company I work for has all this info on about 220,000,000 households in the USA that goes back as far as 12 years.
I think the best way to handle this is not to let it get to you.
There really isn't much you can do but follow the link above and start the process.
In this time, almost everything you do has a history that cannot be stopped. search your name here and you can find every post you have made and Ryan and the other admins can tell you where you signed on, where you were before you clicked on the HAMB and where you went afterwards as well as you full IP address.

BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING !

Anyone that has a desire to send me car related DVD's ,please feel free to do so . I promise I'll pay you tomorrow for them.

    Yeah ,you have my word!!

  13. I was a little bent when I got mine - I did not care for the way they went about it. I read through it & it does say you are under no obligation to return it. Anyway - I watched it & I liked it & I did pick up a couple of tips & Yes! I am going to buy it. :D

Sorry I don't read the rants on here. Why would i expect anyone to read mine? so it slipped past me. I put Rod and Custom in the title so that they would not miss my rant.

I guess I'm not in the main stream so they have nothing to worry about.

Yeah our phone #s are on the do not call registry also. If you think that works I got a bridge for you. There was a big public out cry for the list. People didn't want to be inconvenienced by the calls. That worked well.

The only thing they understand is $$$$$

I figured I wasn't alone in my anger.

Yuall be sure to read and follow your instructions carefully. now ya hear?

I wasn't to happy about it either when I opened it up, but I did watch it and it seems only good for beginners I would rather they just sent a dvd about some cars shows or something not some dude fixing the rust in a Chevelle.

  16. well I'm sending the empty envelope back and let them pay the postage.

I get pissed everytime one of the stupid subscription cards fall out of every magazine I get. now that I think about it "everything pisses me off!" heh heh!
I have shutoff my home phone that took care of 90% of the telemarketeers, I now shut my Cell phone off a 6:30 and I never watch T.V. or listen to Radio. stopped all my Magazines. and I live in the country. and don't look at all the junk e-mails I get.
Life gets better with your head stuck in the sand.

Me too... Although the guy in the video is sort of dry and annoying, I couldn't argue with his way of doing things. I liked it too.

Ohh, ohh, ohh... look over the records... do I win the prize for the most porn, alcohol, ammo and car parts bought? :D

  19. Tommy, it's too cold for the Roadster so take the truck out.

Has anybody watched the DVD? I did pick up a couple tricks on drilling spot welds out of the floor brace. I did not however understand why they replaced the complete floor in that car, only the foot wells were rusty, but not even that bad.

A 'friend' takes all the junk mail and stuffs it into one of the "NO POSTAGE REQUIRED" return envelopes. Sends it off. Oh, and he "might" put some washers or something else heavy in there. When it shows up at the other end, they pay by weight............... My 'friend' got this tip from a disgruntled postal worker :)

Exactly...any kind of pre-paid envelope a company sends me gets stuffed with whatever is laying around, and that includes pieces of metal, bondo dust, washers, other solicitations torn into a million tiny pieces, shredded cc solicitation letters and even those phoney plastic cards from AARP...soon, you won't get ANY more offers from those companies...they MUST pay that postage to receive them...more than one way to stop them without getting on anyone's list...!!!
