My wife built her 51 from scratch... motor swap & hop up, body work, custom stuff, and interior... in LESS than a year... then drove it cross country... she called ALL the shots and did almost all of the work herself... but she won't sign up on the HAMB because she doesn't think she has anything meaningful to contribute. A lot of guys on here really could learn from her

She built the whole car and doesn't think she has anything to contribute? I would like to see a build thread of that just to see the '51. Coming from a woman would probably give a different perspective too.

  3. my youngest daughter age 17 ,i would like to say i am so proud of her
she welds better than most guys i know , paints and air brushes
has won a scholorship to MSU for art ,works on her own stuff as well
as mine , has ran a 10-50 in the quarter at the track , all this girls
cant this and girls cant that is just a bunch of bullshit , if anyone feels

WOW , I hadn't seen this thread untill today. I could write a book to the new jerks who had the craptastic things to say about women and hot rodding. But since its christmas I will make it short and sweet. ................. , yup women are becomming more and more prominent on the "hot rodding scene" most are quite knowledgeable and have a genuine interest and love for the hobby / lifestyle . If they didnt, they would not be at a show , or local cruise in. And , to the ass hat who was bitching that he would like to see more women do more things to their vehicles. HOW do you know , when you see those ladies driving around in there rides, that they havent just recently gotten them, or instead of putting $$ on lowering , or tires, and wheels that they havent put the $$$$ in a bad ass engine. ?? And how do you know that those things wont come later ? You most definatly picked the wrong place to bitch about women and hot rodding. Wouldnt it suck , if a woman in her bad ass hot rod , ran you down . Ha LOL. And to everyone else Have a super wonderful safe and happy Christmas, Holiday season or what ever else you celebrate.

Ohh and .........mr smart guy, I am willing to bet that there are LOTS of guys out there who have the hot rods, with all the bells and whistles, and guess what , I bet a wife, or girlfriend, worked tons of hours, either to contribute $$ for the cause , or helped to build , refab, etc the hot rod for there guy. And most of those gals, get to go for a cruise sometimes, for all their supportive efforts. And are simple happy with that , just to make sure there guy is happy. ( Thats what I did for my husband for YEARS before I got my own ride.

    Ironic, isn't it?

Here's the build thread I posted for her, and a thread about our marriage/cross country trip with final pics of the car. AthenaMarie is right... Elizabeth helped a ton on my 59. Many of our first dates were sanding my car and prepping it for paint. :)

I think we're also all forgetting Ms. Metal who occassionally pops up on the HAMB. She does ALL her own work and drives her car, and is a genuinely nice person, too!

    Wow.

    Thanks for the links.

  9. I have been reading this since yesterday. Just saw it then. Prolly 1 of the best threads I've seen.
I am a girl, I love old cars, and am trying to learn as much I can. I've been around 'em since I was a young'n (thanks to my Dad). Not too many gals around my neck-o-the-woods that are into the same thing. None of my gal friends are so it's just me around a bunch of guys. Not bad really.
They've helped me build my 28 A coupe. Still not done tho.
Have made one pass at HAMB Drags and I want to do MORE!!! Even though I may not know too much, you'll NEVER have to ask me twice to help weld, wrench, grind, or anything else (damn pop rivets!!)having to do with building a car. :D
I am proud to be able to have the ability and guts and drive to work on cars. I am, like what HotRodLadyCrusr said, a bit intimidated to post because of the macho realm that seems to be on here at times. I hope that can change. Nor do I have a pc so I limited 4 use at work. I read HAMB most every week so keep the posts/threads going. I like these kinds that bring out all kinds of people.
And all the old pics of the hot rod chicks are so cool! Wish I coulda been there.
    Thanks to Ryan!!

Actiongirl is another one that comes to mind that built her own car, swap out an motor and even did her own interior with the help of her Mom. Sure wish she would post more too.

Jalopy gal, lets plan on doing a group shot of all us HAMB gals with our cars at the HAMB Drags in Aug.

So our grand total is two dorks out of hundreds of posts?
HAMBers have just beaten the shit out of the rest of the modern world in inclusion because...

It's about the cars, stupid. Come to this community with respect and humility (okay, some humility) and a love for the cars and it's all equal. My 2 cents anyway.

    You go, girls!

Here's my Baby's ride. '62 Impala SS 358 SBC with 350 Turbo. Factory Air car, with original interior and carpet (one of 258 that color). Dropped spindles, power disk brakes, and poly bushings. MSD everything, Stealth Carbs 2X4's ... Pretty nice when you get tired of the trucks. Rides like a Caddy and stops like Corvette! Gotta love a Hot Rod Wife........

I've been watching this post and thought I'd add Diana Branch to the list.
She built the motor and did a lot of the work on her studebaker powered deuce sedan. She drives the thing to Bonneville and back and everywhere in between every year for the past 4 years.
The 2nd pic is her at the Antique Nats getting ready to get a whole shot on me. She races there every year.
Before the sedan she drove her 55 studebaker everywhere. Diana has owned that car since 1991.
The last pic is of her posing proudly after her triumphant run at Speed Week 07. She was the last to drive the rear engine roadster and ran faster than the 4 guys that had their turn behind the wheel that week.
    I'm a very lucky man.

  23. People....why do all the great posts have to get ruined with such bullshit.

    Back to the thread...

    I love girls.... hahaha!

For the record, girls can usually do anything we guys can, and most often....better! We all know this... I'd take my mother over any lame ass guy in a sketchy situation. Hahahaaa.

Here is some cool reading about woman and cars...enjoy!

Seems a good thread to put these photos in, came across them in the USC digital archive. Originals are a bit clearer and 1024x....

1.Bebe Baldwin and her car, 18 y.o., 1951. Hamilton High School.
2.Looking at engines. 1952. Marshall High School.
3.Pre-show publicity, L.A. police chief behind the wheel. Note the eyes, not the goggles. =-) 1952.
    4.Mitchells Muffler Shop hot rod.
5.Lee Roan. 22y.o. and mom, I don't think she was thrilled about having to climb in the car for the photographer. Story about him shipping off with the navy.
