i've rebuilt one but the new ones are cheap. the last one i got (new by carter) i had to get 3 of them, when they made the threads for the fuel lines they went to far and scored the sealing surface on the in and out ports. the 3rd one was fine and is running with no leaks.
it didnt look that hard, i did each check valve one at a time, every thing was easy...but doesnt want to pump, has new pump rod, and the rod is moving up and down....also if you put your hand over the carb and crank,it will fill the bowl, but wont do it on it own....
no i didnt the old one looked as good as the new one...still not sure why if you put your hand over the carb and crank,it will fill the bowl, but wont do it on it own.... i must have did something wrong,
One old school fix is to replace diaphram with leather shoe tongue soaked in light oil... It worked for me.
Couple of troubleshooting tricks: 1 - Double-check that the fuel line going to the pump is tight & not leaking. Any air will be ****ed up long before fuel. 2 - Make sure the gl*** bowl has a good seal. Those cork gaskets can be dry - wipe them down with axle grease on both sides. 3 - Pull the fuel line to the pump, hold your finger over the inlet, crank the engine - is there any suction? 4 - Replace the arm - sometimes they're worn on the pivot inside & won't actually displace the diaphragm enough. 5 - Why did you rebuild the pump? What was it doing before?
i rebuilt it because it sat for along time..and i had a kit, also iam trying to pull gas from a can on the floor....if that make a difference
well it was as easy as i thought to rebuild, and it would have worked if i would have tighend up 1 screw in the top, it was leaking air...its as good as new.... thanks for all the replys.
