Just picked up a box set of Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello movies just to see the rods used in the movies. Price was $18 for 8 movies. Watched Bikini Beach with the Manta Ray, Ivos 4 engine dragster, several rails and a chase scene with 2 T-buckets and a 32' roadster. I got to thinking, what ever happen to those buckets and that roadster. What ever happened to those Hot Rods from Hell. What happen to the 32' roadster from Starman.....etc.......... Met Annette back in 81'. Boy, was she a doll.............
yeah, me too! Annette was on some show last night, she has MS. Has trouble speaking, other problems, but through it all she is still a cl***y looking lady. I'll be 60 in a few days so I was part of the target audience for those movies when they first came out, had a huge crush on Annette.
Growing up in So.Cal. I too had a crush on Annette and I will keep my eyes open for thoses DVD sets. I already have some of them on video tape but would like them on DVD. Thanks
Next you guys are going to start talking about fantasy's that involve mouse ears. When that happens, we can go into psychological evaluation of the relationship to Princess Leya's hair-do.
i got to meet her once in the early eighties attending an MS benifit with my sister who is also a member of that awful club at the time she was using a cane to get around but she seemed to be a very nice lady..
FWIW 'Bikini Beach' is on the Encore Channel several times this week with no commercials...in fact it's on twice today.
Got to love Annette! I have a large collection of Annette items, records, books, etc. First time I seen her I realized there was more to life than cowboys and indians! ha! ha! Gary aka 1940 Willys Coupe
Bikini Beach was a great movie, I have a copy that I watch a few times a year for the draster stuff. In my opinion, the best Frankie and Annette flick, bar NONE was "Back To The Beach", it was made sometime in the '80's and while it only has a couple cars worth mentioning, the humor is top-notch, it has better music than any of the originals, including **** Dale and Stevie Ray Vaughn doing "Pipeline". It's absolutely worth a look if you've never seen it.
Come on........ I went to every one of those movies when they came out, and they were awful. There weren't enough car scenes to keep my interest. By the way.... I know that you guys who liked Annette were not interested in her Mouse Ears.
Annette Funicello.....................first real whacking material............maybe that is too much information
HUGE fan of those movies... thought I was alone in my shame... I love you guys. Amazon has the 8-disc collection for $21.
I did that too, just to watch the Pomona scenes and look at all the cars. The yellow T-touring too (Grabowski's painted yellow???). Love it when the two diggers leave on Don Rickles standing between them with his flag.
I read an interview with Ivo an he said that for a good look on film, both cars were in the same lane for the Rickles scene. Look close and it's obvious, but I never picked up on it myself in the first go-around.
49ratfink, great posters, man! If Annette was getting started with a career today, she would make it huge as a pin-up girl! She always had that "oh wow!" girl next door thing going on.
I read that too, I think in TRJ's story on the Ivo Barnstormer. I think Ivo said that they left before Rickles thought they would and it scared the **** out of Rickles? Ivo the joker.
Around '81, I met my girlfriend at a coffee shop on Ventura Blvd in Encino. I was explaining why I was late as I scanned the other patrons. Suddenly, sitting across from us was Annette with her 2 kids. She was wearing a blue ****tail dress with a plunging neckline. My mouth dropped open and I saw, "Oh my God, It's Annette Funicello!", totally making an *** of myself. She was really hot looking, thinner then in her movies, but a rock'in bod.
