I'm researching for a story... and part of that story deals with a trophy inscribed with the initials of a track. Those initials are "O.C.R."

Most likely in SoCal in the early 50's... Anyone know?

I'm not real sure... Was OCIR ever called OCR?

    Anyone else?

    Ryan,
The 1994 printing of Allan Brown's "History of American Speedways" which is regarded as the most comprehensive list of racetracks in the US lists has this entry:

    Orange Co. Int'l Raceway - East Irvine - 1/4 mile paved dragstrip (1967 - 11/06/83) 2.0 mile paved road course (June, 1967 - 1968)

The book usually lists alternate names any given track went by so there's a good chance that your trophy is from some other track. There are no other listings in the California section that come close the the "OCR" initials.

In the Florida section there's one:

Orange County Raceway - Orlando (Bithlo) - 1/8 mile dirt oval (1988 - present)

    In Washington:

    Okanogan County Raceway - Omak - 3/8 mile dirt oval (4/21/84 - June, 1984) 1/4 mile dirt oval (c.6/30/84 - 1985)

Those are all the tracks listed with the "OCR" initials. Maybe the trophy shop removed the "I"?

The only other California racetrack I can recall was Ontario, but I think its abbreviation was OMS (Motor Speedway). Sounds like a shortened OCIR, or Orange County Racing (Santa Ana) are the most plausible possibilities.
