I seem to keep a car 5 or 6 years, then I seem to get sick of it, Coupes, trucks, panels you name it I've had it...is this just a guy thing or am I sick????? John
Too young to know for sure, only 61. Have never gotten bored with anything yet, but have had the desire to add to my collection. Everything, except wives, that is.
Rare but not unheard of. Tony Martinez in the S.F. Bay Area still has his high school car. A Model A roadster hot rod. He's got to be way up in his 70s. Sorry Tony! It's been through a few incarnations over the years. I just saw him a week or two ago by his house talking to a neighbor. Blacky still has the black A.M.B.R. I started working on my roadster in 79 and still have it. Hope to have it at Fathersday. Can anybody think of anymore? Oh yeah I know another guy that bought his first car maybe about 1960 still has every car he ever bought all Studebakers.
Bored with cars. Yes! Sometimes. When i get bored, i buy anotherone. So i can put that one a side for a while. Until i get over it. That is the way i made to keep my Nova since -87.
Yeah, after 22 years we resort to role play a lot! "Escaped Convict and the Warden's wife",that sorta thing..... I don't think I could sell my truck. Some of my friends that worked on it with me have left this mortal coil.
Engines...Paint...Interiors...Tires...Wheels...Yes. Having the same car(s) for 20 years...No. Grilfriends...Yes. Life in General...NO...!!! R-
Hell it's pretty much done....can't do much more.....make it a SHOW car...Not a GO car......NOT!!! not today, not ever......
I have Car Attention Deficit Disorder. Its not that I get tired of one car, it is that I like so many different cars.
I was bored the minute I finished a car, and always sold them to buy another project. After about two decades, and a dozen builds, I decided to just do my favorite part on other people's toys. That way I have an endless string of projects through my shop....and I don't have to work a real job! Now I'm happy. As far as wives, I found out that the ones that are an exciting "mystery" will eventually make you insane! I finally found one with a rare, supportive, loving, and predictable spirit, and I will stay right here for the duration. It's like a warm fire.
I have the opposite problem, well kinda, I have a hard time selling cars, I only sold 4 cars in my life, the other 6 are still with me.
Yes......I've had several different cars and trucks in different stages. I always tell myself I'm done and these are the ones I'm keeping....they always go down the road and something else takes there place. It's called Old Tin Disease!
Same truck since 73 but when I get bored I change just about everything on it. Tired of fooling with it, yep, I haven't done much but collect parts and pieces for the last few years for the next rebuild.
The litle lady and I both change cars about every three years, I'm in the process of planning my 'next' one right now, and once I've got it, my current 30 year old cl***ic will be sold. We also changed houses almost every year until 16 years ago, but now we live where we want to retire, so we just change the colour, kitchen bathroom etc on a regular basis. As far as we're concerned, we've been together almost 30 years, and that I have no intention of changing! (Don't know her thoughts on the matter though....) Cheers, Glen.
If you have enough projects, you never get bored with one. The longest I've owned a car is my first car (66 C10). Bought it with lawn mowing money when I was 13 and drove it home (my **** still hurts thinking about that evening). Still have it. Sort of - it's 1200 miles away stashed behind a barn on the family farm, where I parked it under it's own power years ago. The shortest I owned a car was a late 70's Impala 2 Dr aero (with the 3 piece back window. Bought it for $50 sight unseen, stopped for gas on my way home to get the truck and ran into an old car guy buddy from high school, who went with me to pick it up and gave me $200 to take it to his house instead of mine. He even gave me back the tow bar that was hanging off the front of the car when we picked it up.
Car Attention Deficit Disorder! YEP That's Me Too. My wife says I buy high and sell low!!! Like now I have beautiful '63 T-Bird but I want a station wagon and I'll be buying an old Dodge pick-up soon... maybe she's right?
nope, I think theres a reason the cars we build have looked the same for the past 60+ yrs. You can't get bored with perfection.
