This car is turning out to be WAY too nice for the likes of me...

Alex and I spent two more days (Saturday and Sunday) at his shop. Saturday was spent taping yet again. We went back around and fine-lined all of the panels, then masking tape, then the paper. I don't even want to know how many hours we have into taping this fucking thing.

Sunday morning saw about an hour more of taping and then it was show time. Neither of us could wait to see the lace panels become what we have envisioned them to be. Lots of careful blending led up to four full coatings of candy to tone the whole thing down. The hood center, top and trunk were all made to match in intensity and lace pattern. The other two lace panels were done just a bit lighter to differentiate them not only in pattern but in overall appearance.

These photos do the flake and color NO JUSTICE. It's pretty incredible how the panels come alive as you walk around the car. I may just pass out when I see it in the sun for the first time.

Side panels are next. They'll get fades too. Maybe cobwebbing, maybe not. We'll see.

Also, the upholstery is getting stitched while all of this is going on. In fact, I think the headliner and carpet may be going in today.

Alex and Dave knock down the edges of the lace panels.

Ah, subtlety. Well, as subtle as you can get with gay-ass lace all over your car.

I can't even imagine how it will look with the clear on the white flake. DAMN!

I just couldn't get the flake to show up anywhere near what it actually looks like in person.

Hope that you have a special area for all of the awards that you will get with this one. Bet you will spend many a nite staring at this and not really be able to believe that it is yours. Will it be at the GNRS in Pomona?

That's funny, I was just having a conversation this morning about how even though there will be a ton of blood sweat and tears into this car, and I'll be super proud of it, that I could still give a shit about awards. We get some real whiners sometimes at events, and I just don't get it. If you didn't build your car because you enjoy it, you fucked up.

GNRS is the goal. Hopefully we'll make it.
