So what are the best wheels you've ever seen on a 55' 56' 57' Chevy car ?? Hardtop, post.. I know they look a bit different but both are cool to me, I just picked up a 57' Chevy 150, thinking about some 15's or 16's, what backspacing would work for these the best with 215's in front and maybe 235's in back ?? What YOUR opinion/experience... ?? Looking for different styles, lowered, stock, gasser, Thanks..

Here's some pics I've found here on the hamb.

The Two Lane Blacktop one is cool, but I'd say skinny 15" slots with tall blackwalls on the front, and wide slots with piecrust slicks out back (you might get away with 16" rear slots, but it's pushing the limits....)

Well, you asked for opinions! Just picture that top one with slots and you're there.

  9. Hands down... and not because it's my car... I'll be the first one to say this car was built by somone else in the 60's... I just "cleaned it up a bit"

The wheels were bought by Paul Rouse in 1967 from Vic Hubbard's in Hayward, Ca... then bolted on this car after being shod with similar rubber that they are wearing today.

In my opinion, "The Look" that our forefather's came up with in the late 60's out here in Northern California still looks the best... 40 years later.

    Sam.

Boy that is one wicked looking 55. I have to say these are my favorites of the tri 5 cars. They definitely make the best looking drag cars from these year chevy's as well

I shot this picture at the Alter Boys show. It's a really nice car but I'm not a big fan of those American TTOs.

It would look so much better with old Americans, like SamIyam's, or like Willy Dorseys car with the magnesium wheels, KILLER!

  14. And REAL 60's American Racing wheels shouldn't be confused with the ones on the front of that black '55. Sure the new wheels look good... but it ain't the same.

It's hard to tell from the pic of that beautiful black '55... but the fronts look like ET's and the backs look like Original Americans in a 15 x 7.5"...

    Word. I agree...

  16. Original 2-piece 16x10 ETIII's on the back, not the repops - match 'em with narrow 15" Hals up front . . . if you need a pair of the ET's let me know ;)

I have to say I am tyring to get a pair of the daisy wheels for mine off my friend, but he is not hearing me at the moment. I was only able to buy the ones on my car because they fit in my budget.

My personal favorite is the Fenton Gyro. It is a slot aluminum wheel used extensively in the late (very late) 60s and early 70s on many stout race cars; the 3.5 x 15 frontrunner has the best look of any wheel that size. Can't believe I let mine go.....

Dude that site is awesome, i'm gonna see which ones i dig.
Although my little brother is trying his hardest to talk me into some 18's and 20's, I like them to be honest, but I dig the traditional look also.. might have to get two sets of wheels and tires!! Anyone have any info on the backspacing for 15's, or for 18's or 20's ??.. I want to get pretty low without rubbing. Thanks for the pics so far guys, some nice tri-5's.

Well, I think what looks good on a 55 does not necessarily look good on a 57.. lots of reasons. for a 55 there are three distinct wheels that work very well

    Sams (american)
    58 corvette hubcaps with whitewalls
    chrome reverse with blackwall

For the 56 and 57 have a different look and thou the americans looks good I am not sure they are the best for that style. my taste go as follows

56: just look at Sam F two versions, for my preference followed by early americans

57: I have been pondering this for awhile now that I have one and have become conflicted. I know I like Chrome reverse first but for my second I debated between dog dish hubcaps on painted steelies or cragers, (one caviate.. on a dark color 57, natural americans jump into second place or possibly first).

for my personal 57, its going one of three ways, astros, chrome reverse or cragars (thou I have access to a cherry set of vintage Americans)

I like Chrome Reverse's I just always thought of them as being understated and a bit flashy at the same time (if that is even possible). I guess it depends on the stance and time line you are sticking to. One thing is for sure, that third picture must have been posted as a joke, otherwise some one probably got quite the verbal beating I'm sure. I would steer clear from the 18'' & 20" wheels due to there lack of timelessness. Tried and true wheels used by rodders 25-45 years ago are going to be your best bet in my opinion. SamIyam's looks nice to me but you may not want those wheel wells so that may throw the look off a bit.
