At 26 I'm still used to pushing the rod out of the driveway before firing it so the girls old man won't hear when I leave. Guess I have always done my best to be civil.

Unfortunately my shop is a bay in a storage unit so my neighbors are people cooking meth at night. They don't mind a radio, cigarette smoke and me yelling.

  3. So I had a party to work on the car. 6-8 friends and a few Hot Rods.
OK, So its easy to hate Bodymen - we make alot of noise.
The neighbor put up a fence over it - during the party! HA! Love it!
The next place I moved to has a bigger lot... The one guy who can see it complains to the city 'bout the junk out back of my garage. Well, it got me into a garage extension earlier than planned.
I figured "OK, you don't like this stuff, lets build on!"
I guess he calls it "The Barn" now. Teach him to complain.
besides - its no"Barn". I grew up around "Barns". 22 x 40 is just a shed and hardly a "barn". Hell, its barely a shop.
    You guys understand...

I live 400 feet from the road on 10 acres,I can't see my neighbors and they can't see me.So no one knows i really am an asshole.I'm not too noisy, and don't blast down the road cause I don't wanna kill somebody's kid.
I used to live in a built up area, the cops were called cause of my noise. When the cop arrived,he had to speak up over the fucking barking dogs, lawnmovers and screaming kids in the neighorhood. He just shook his head and left.

The neighbor to the right of me raced at the old Norwood arena. And the guys to the left are harley riders. Hot rodding just kinda fits into this neighborhood.

I hope so, cause I don't much care for them. I live on 2 acres on a nice blacktop road. Perfect for burnouts.

Having been on both sides of the fence, a little consideration goes a long way. I moved from by last house because my neighbors were inconsiderate assholes. They had 15 people living in their house and you couldn't carry on a conversation in my back yard due to the noise their kids were making. When the kids went to bed, they'd start drinking.

At first I didn't care too much. I turned up my music and ran my tools late. The problem is you now piss off the good neighbors.

My advice. If you think that restricting the amount yard art or noise infringes on your well-being, move to the friggen country and make all the noise you want. If you live in the city on 60' lots (or less) with 5 other people around you trying to get their kids to bed and get up early to make a living, start considering those around you. I don't tune my cars at 11:00PM or run zoomies and ask that my neighbors don't either. Realize most people in any new neighborhood aren't car people, so pissing them off doesn't make your life easier.

I will give in though that it depends on the neighborhood. My friend moved into this yuppie neighborhood recently. He only works on his car one night a week and maybe one day on the weekends. The grinders and air tools stop at 10:30PM. He's very considerate and everything car related is in in the garage. Still, he's had some trouble because his yuppie neighbors think he's bringing down the neighborhood. After the house next door sold 2x in 18 months, his next door neighbor is a car guy. He came over to show us his chopped '47 Merc coupe just after he moved in.:D

I just try not to do noisy stuff (running the air compressor, grinders, open headers, etc. ) before 9am or after 10pm or so. I'll start a little later on the weekends, too.

They don't seem to mind. We're the only car people on the street.

  14. Of course. Uptight wanna-be's until their cars needs work than I'm a good humanoid.

  15. Our upstairs neighbor is a fucking asshole....

Stomps around all fucking day & night, slides open & closes the balcony door 15-20 times an hour, and slams it....

Yes, we asked him to please keep it down, but to no avail...so we are taking legal action

i had a 54 chevy on a trailer and a 34 ford truck under my lean to then i parked my truck in back next to them cause i worked on it for a couple days. I bought my house 6 months before them. when they moved in i met them and the second sentence that evil lady said was i work for the city. don't you know you can't park cars in your yard and that they need tags on them. Not long after that i got letter in mail from city to clean it up or warrant by certain date. funny thing was that all that stuff was there when that house was for sale.

    So far, so good.

I've had dead cars parked all over the place (street, lawn, back yard) and nobody has said a word. Even the band vehicle (chopped van with name painted 3 feet tall on the side) didn't draw any fire when it was parked on the street for 6 months.

most of the neighbors just seem bemused by our old junk. One actually lamented that i'd moved my dead '48 station wagon off the front lawn and into the back. "That thing was neat," he said.

No, the top ten reasons they love me

    10. Gives them something to talk about
    9. Keeps their wives off thier ass for not doing things around the house, by comparing them to me
    8. Justifies playing golf, which has got to be cheaper than all that car stuff.
    7. I give them a place to hang out
    6. I give their kids a place to hang out
    5. They can drop their broken shit off at my house thinking I want it.
    4. I ask for their broken shit because I know I can use it
    3. I am the only one in the neigborhood who can ifx their kids bikes
    2. I can fix their lawnmowers and weed eaters

And the #1 Reason they like me Is BECAUSE I HAVE GOOD STUFF TO BORROW, AND CAN TELL THEM HOW TO USE OR BETTER YET DO IT FOR THEM!

My last house was in a new subdivision(won't do that again) and got the funniest looks when the garage door was open and I was out working on the car. When a bunch of the neighbor kids were being to loud or if I wanted to piss someone off, I fired up the 55 with nothing but headers on it.
I live in an old part of town now and much better. My neighbor has a dog I don't really like, but I don't say much because of the cars and parts in my driveway. Kinda works out better that way.

My neighbor across the street is a muscle car guy but is really intelligent when it comes to fabrication as well as anything that has to to with Dodge Plymouth or Chrysler. He is actually the one that gave me the "heads-up" to the 331 Hemi I am picking up Friday. The other two neighbors are not car guys but I like them just as much. I am in the presence of good company around here.

Had a neighbor who gave me a hard time when I moved in gave him a little advise; told him that I would most likly out live him and if he kept it up I would shit all over his wife and daughter. Sometime you have to stand up for your right. The out come was he passed away I continued to helped his wife and daughter. His wife pasted away a few years later and I still help the daughter who is handicapped and in turn I get to use the garage to store my rod. The moral of the story is stand up for your rights and be patient, what goes around comes around.

I had a 66 Chevy II one time with a healthy 421 SBC, with a 600 + lift roller shaft. Flowmaster mufflers had given me a set of 5 inch Mountain mufflers for the Shootout race, and they sounded real good. The lady that lives behind me is blind, but she loves Ole Hot Rods, and likes hearing my toys. I scared the hell out of her one night, she was in her laundry room trying to fold clothes, and she heard a loud bang in her house while I was revving my motor up, she took her cane, and went to searching. She found about 20 longaberger baskets had fell from a chain that was hanging from her roof, I think she was pissed that night, but the car still sounded good

Passed away is the correct spelling, I was just being facetious. Mainly we call it, kicked the bucket, Karked it, Bought the farm, pushing up daiseys etc etc.......
