I posted this on your original request for backspacing details but looks like you missed it.

    And as for wheels...

I have TTD's on mine but am looking to go to an original style steel wheel for a change.

Might have them all round or just on the back, undecided as yet.

Anyway you might want to try this site for a really good guide of what will fit and what wont fit.

Not mine, only wish I was clever and patient enough to come up with it...

    http://57rustbucket.com/

Scroll down and then download the tyre size calculator, 5th item down in the left hand panel.

    Hey Paul,

I checked that site out and all the menus on the left side are empty boxes with X's in them.. maybe its my computer here at work i'll have to check it out at home, hopefully it'll be able to answer my question, my fronts i've got figured out so far, I think.. but the backs i want to run these mickey thompson 29x12.5-15 sportman tires and i think they'll fit height wise, i'm worrying about width, right now i put on a set of 235/70-15 on the back, and i've got an inch between the tire and the leafspring, and about 3 inches between the wheel lip and the tire.. this is with a steelie not sure of the backspace, but i would guess around 0 ?.. so i'm wondering what backspace i would need to run that tire with a cragar, i'll take some pics tomorrow of what i'm talking about and hopefully with looking at the site you gave me i'll get some good answers.
    Thanks.

    Anthony,

If you PM me your email address I will send you the spreadsheet.

If you move your springs inboard and do a minitub job the sportsmans will fit.

Height is fine, I run 29's on mine but you will not get the 12.5 tyre to fit unless you mod the suspension what ever the back spacing.

From memory the biggest /widdest you can go on the rear without mods is something like a 285 on an 8" rim with 4.50 back spacing.

It will be very tight, and might rub a little dependant on ride height etc. A 275 would be a better bet.

Send me your e mail address and you can play with numbers until your heart is content.

Posted this before but this is what mine looks like with the TTD's.

Gnarlytyler.....my 57' had 29x12.5 mickeys on it. We had to
cut and move the inner wheel wells in to the frame and add
about a 3" strip of metal back in. I ran a narrowed 9 inch and
15x10 TT's with ladder bars and coilovers. You can move the
springs inboard (have to move the gas tank) or they also make
a kit to put them under the frame.
The car sat alot lower before this pic.

    Hey Paul,

I finally figured out how to download excel on my computer and got that spreadsheet, looks like the 275/60-15 should be fine in the back with a 4.5 backspace like you said. Now does anyknow know a nicer tire than the pro-trac 60 series??.. If not then i'm gonna go with those. Thanks!

    Gorehound,
    Thats a nice stance!

When I was deciding what I wanted to run on my 55, these 2 pictures stuck in my mind.
I dont know anything about the first car but the second is the Two Lane Blacktop car when it was raced in the 70's.

Some think slots are a 70's van thing, but I dig the right combo. 3.5" up front and 10" or wider out back looks right to me.

Here is Shakey Puddin with 15x3.5 Fenton Gyros up front and Ansen 15x12's in the back.

I may be swapping them out for magnesium wheels soon. I have 15x4 Americans for the front and 16x11 or 16x13 Halibrands for the rear.

That's what I ran on my old yeller bel air because I couldn't afford Americans at that time. Man, THOSE things were expensive in the 60s and 70s!

I rememebr that pic like it was yesterday... I used to think "I'd never flame a '57... and... I'd never put moons on a '57"

    Daisy's belong on Mustangs......

The Hali's are AWESOME, but only for the gasser look. For everyday driving, I'm a brick for steels with killer caps or Astro's.

Nothing else will do and DAISYS will NEVER cut it for me **no sick ideas Frank!**

Thanks, McKee! That's my 56 with 38 year old ETs. It's really red and white and stock height, but I photoshopped the color change and lowered stance.
