Strange finds under filler?

What surprises have you come across? Found this under about a 1/8 of fibergalss in my floor board.

How do you get an uncut sheet of this?

This will be interesting.

 

Quarters s***ched on over exsisting, rotting, rusty ones. More common than you'd think.

 

I found a bag of meth encased in expanding foam insulation, when cutting 8 cubic feet of foam out of the trunk of my girlfriends rusty T-bird. The stupidity of tweekers never ceases to amaze and amuse.

You'd think if we could find him that fast we'd be wearing black suits and dark gl***es,

I've found Duct tape, hardware cloth, flattened coffee cans, screen, and wadded up paper. All of which worked pretty well in the short run.

 

my favorite was a 72 suburban that had a br*** scouring pad stuck in a hole then bondo'd over. this was in the roof corner. it came in with a few bubbles where it had been repainted below the lower body line. I ended up replacing the bottom 6" of the thing just about all the way around. bondogl*** and window screen covering rust holes that were huge. I bet I removed 20 pounds of dirt and pine needles out of that thing.

lucky for me it was not mine.

 

I like the 'gl***ed in license plates, cl***ic.

 

A friend brought over his truck for a scuff and shoot. We cuold'nt get off the side trim on the p*** door. Found it to be held on with silicone. We noticed it was a little weird looking, contour wise, so we pulled the door panel to look inside. Saw 3/8" bolts sticking out from the outside of the door skin? Long story shorter, the door was creased and rather than pulling out the metal someone bolted a 2x4 in the crease and sculped about a gallon of plastic in there afterwards.

We bought a relacement door at a wrecker for $25.00 and replaced it, was the same color even so we did'nt have to paint the inside at all. The creativity of people amaze me.

Another body shop made some custom mods to a '69 chevy C10, then sent it to me for paint. I saw cracks around the area where the filled-in stake holes were.....turns out they stuffed shop rags in the holes and filled 'em with mud.

Unhappy customer....to say the least....

 

Bought a "rebuilt" 64 Corvette in 1980, hit hard in the left side/cowl sometime in it's life. After I got the engine out, I could really see how bad the cowl and firewall had been patched together LOTS of roofing tar packed into nooks and crannies. One BIG lump of roof tar was just too much for me, so I dug it out---imbedded in the black goop I found a pair of jockey shorts(tighty-whiteys)
I didn't check to see if they were clean or not.....

 

We Found A "Beware Of Dog" Sign and criss crossed coat hangers in my friends 62 SS Quarter panel, Ha ha! Way cheaper than a patch panel!

 

These stories are cracking me up. Just thinking about some goofball mixing up Bondo a gallon at a time and slopping it on there.

Three or four years ago at Paso Robles, there was a guy walking around with a t-shirt that said "BONDO" in huge letters you could see a mile away. He walked across the street where lots of people had gathered to watch the cars cruising by and he stood in the middle of the street and held his arms up to display his shirt to everybody trying to get a rise out of the audience until some guys started booing him. He was laughing and having a good time. I was cracking up.

I bought a 'restored' Ford Prefect to rod. Under the bondo filling the bottom of each rotted out door pillar was a wad of newspaper, and behind the paper was all the leaves and **** that had caused the rust in the first place. Even the spiders that had lived in the holes were still there, long dead fortunately.

Under the opening windscreen I found more bondo. When I dug it out I discovered the drain hole and pipe that should get rid of the water was still intact, just filled with plastic.

The best one I think I ever saw was another 'restored' car, a 38 Olds this time. The boot floor looked 'funny' but was all freshly carpeted. I snuck the carpet up while the seller wasn't looking, and there was no floor left at all, just the top of the petrol tank supporting the new carpet.

So, how do you know it was meth?

 

I bought an off topic car one time that had cement lower quarter pannels! They actually formed up some wood, poured the area from below the trunk floor level with the floor and bondoed it over smooth and painted it. That chunk of cement was about 18" long, 6" wide and about 8" deep on both sides of the car. Sure got around great in the snow.....Gene

 

i looked at a 38 willys sedan that was for sale a few years back, it had a fresh paint job but was really wavy when i opend the drivers door it didn't seem right, way to heavy. the guy had done all the paint/body work himself and was kinda upset when i asked to take of the cardboard door panel. i shined a flashlight down the window channel and all i could see was bondo. he finnally took the panel off so i could really see what was going on and well the only thing behind the filler was more filler and a little duct tape. turns out the guys welder took a ****, or so he says, so he just put some duct tape on the outside of the door and poured bondo down inside the window channel/holes in the inner door until he had filled it up past the rust. it came up about a foot from the bottom i think he said it was 4 1/2 gallons of bondo. needless to say i just walked away laughing, don't know if he ever sold the car but if he did hopefully the buyer got it really really cheap like under s**** prices.

 

LOTS of expandi-foam sculpted into lower fenders and quarters. A 2 x4 in a decklid. And more fibergl*** and chicken wire...brutal

we had a really high dollar 53 chevy truck come into the shop to have some front end work done and when we got it up on the lift it had 2x4 pressure treated braces under the running boards!!!

well at least they thought ahead enough to use pressure treated lumber
