My dad got word of a '39 Ford that's been sitting for 45 years. I went with him to check it out, and here's the pictures from it. The current owner bought it 45 years ago finished, in fact it's got a plate from '56 on it still. He planned on doing some more work to it, but never really got into it. Its been nosed, decked, detrimmed and the cowl vent is filled too. The fenders are leaded in and some narrow running boards are molded into the fenders as well. The decklid is filled and the rumble seat hinges are still there too. The rear bumper looks like a '55 Chevy front bumper with some sort of license plate surround on it. I'm not sure what the taillights are, and it's got the exhaust running out of the fenders above the bumper. All of the body work looks good on the car except for a few minor dings from years of stuff being around it. Its got a '40 dash with what looks like a '49-50 Olds cluster in it. All of the interior trim and molding is on the car. The top framework is there, just lying down behind the seat. As for drivetrain, it's running a flathead. The block is an early block with late model heads, intake and distributor drive. The intake wasn't bolted down, and when we pulled it off it revealed a set of Johnson adjustables. The valley is pretty clean and still wet with oil, but there's no plugs in the motor, so the cylinders might not look too good. The ****** is out, but it's laying behind the seat and it is a '39 box. I'm trying to make an offer on the car now. The guys going into a retirement home and is selling everything off.
Dude, what a find!!!!!!!.Man,wish I can find an old custom that way.GOOD LUCK.If you get it keep us posted
If it doesn't turn out to be a famous custom,i'd chop the windshield. But leave the rest. Cool find!!!
Great find! The rear bumper looks real close to a 51 mercury. The center section with the 3 ribs says it's not though.
I think that center overider is a 53-54 Poncho piece...is the car a 40 with 39 steering wheel and ****** or a 39 with 40 headlights and dash?
I don't know about the taillights being '50 pontiac, at least the lenses don't look like it (6th picture)
