Seeing potential, and having the commitment to realize that potential. In our 30 second sound byte society, it's becoming rarer and rarer.......

Plus it pisses off uptight folks.

The generousity of hotrodders is overwhelming....always willing go give a hand or donate/lend parts....

Even disagreements on a topic here, no one seems to hold it against the others, for too long anyway....

Creativity, unique individuals, doing something that is a part of history, not being the norm, making something out of nothing. There are hundreds of reasons that anybody could list for days and days.

all the old fellas i looked up to, me riding my bicycle to their shops, letting me watch them in their shops... welding, doing lead body work, painting, etc. tuning their race cars, letting me sit in them, even drove one in the shop after hours to put it back the shop by myself, gee just think what could have happened if pushed down on the pedal too much.. and they just smiled at me. i think about them everyday!!!!

The people I meet, seeing how much we give to help others, seeing the wrecked heaps we save drivable again and of course, the girls that're crazy about hot rodders...obviously the last one is wasted on me, but that's ok...

having an eye to see somethings potential and using it for an entirely different purpose..having an eye for the underlying beauty in old automotive engineering, and seeing it as a thing of beauty and or art.
gathering up piles of parts, and to have the vision of the finished master piece. and it all is worth while on that day you fire it up and go for its first drive and you hear some kid or ol man yell "check that out!"..or "Wow how cool"..and the looks you get driving it..poetry in motion

hmm... there are many reasons.. here is a few...

im proud of turning rust into something...*or driveable rust ;).... i like being the young guy that doesnt have a tuner car, i like being different... i like the people involved with the hobby... i like white walls... i like having something me and my dad can do together and both enjoy... i love when everyone looks at you when you are idling at a stop light or how all the kids turn and stare at you in your primered old rod when they are in their parents escalade and smile... haha... there is too many...

its just plain fun and im proud of myself for getting into this instead of slipping away to drugs and tunerz... haha... keeps me in line and out of trouble id say... except for excessive noise/acceleration and wheel spinning ;)

First the people, Then the challenge of fabricating something, from an Idea, learning new skills. I am a furniture designer, maker by trade so metalworking is all new to me. If you look at my welds from a year ago to now I think you would be impressed.

I like when people say "your going to build a car? Do you know what your doing? and then you roll up in there driveway and they are shocked and you throw it in there face that you did what they thought you couldnt.

My dad spent the better part of a Saturday polishing up a Model T spark plug that my cousin gave him. When he was done he put it in a holder on the table. The plug looked brand new! My sister asked "Why did you do that"? He replied, "Cause thats what I do! I make things that are dull, into something that shines!"

That is what my Old Man has p***ed on to me! That is why I am proud to be in the Family of Hot Rodders!

    1) All the little details that go unnoticed to the general public, but the seasoned rodder picks up on immediately!
    2) All the uncounted hours that never get mentioned, but with our love for hobby it doesn't matter!
    3) The first smell of your shop, when you step through the door in the morning!
    4) Oh yea...The smell of burnin rubber also gets me goin!

    Make something Dull...Shine!

All the guys in the hot rod scene that would help a fellow rodder at the drop of a hat, gotta feel the love! Hahahaha......Being in the younger hot rod generation, I get a TON of props and conversation from the old timers who you would NEVER think were into it, hearing their first hand stories and experiences is priceless, they always get a huge smile on their face!

Building something the way I want it and driving it.

The first was just to prove every one wrong. I bought a 1939 Ford truck. Every one said that thing will never see the road. One year later I had a big smile on my face as I drove it by the people that said it would never see the road. Now I just can not stop building them.
