Anyone seen any good ideas for 48 Ford coupe tailights. Pictures would be great! thank you

  2. I put some in the pan of my almost finished pickup. I cut holes for the protruding screws that come out the back of the lamp housings so the stainless rings would sit flush against the paint without needing the ugly rubber gaskets. The lamp buckets are pretty deep, so I had to make holes in the back side of the U-shaped piece that makes up the rear pan for the rear part of the lamp housings to poke through all the way.

  3. 46-8 coupe tailites look good lowered on the car about 4-5 inches.

Yup, you can't beat '48 Ford taillights. Classic! I like them in '32s, '34s, A's, oddballs, and even '46-'48s. What are you gonna put them in?

(I know you were asking what ELSE you could put in your coupe.)

I like them best with the taillights in the bumper guards. Removing them from the fenders makes the rear end so round and smooth looking. Plus its a very traditional custom treatment.

Here are the lights lowered and blended in with the fender line:

  9. Cool car man! That looks really nice how those lights blend in to that fender line, like it was factory built like that. That little slit for a rear window is really cool too!

I used em on my 29 roadster--I think they look better than 39 taillights on a fenderless car--48's make the car look wider.

On my 48 I made openings in the section between the trunk lid an the splash pan for the lense, welded studs inside to hold the tail light housing in place. I remember it well, that under coating burns when it melts. Stupid 19 year old.

  12. iphone pictures 046.JPG Wish I could find some bubble lenses or bullet style lenses to fit my stock '47 housings.
It's finished, don't want to cut into anything to severely.

What a neat place to put 48 Ford tail lights. Love that color, how it sits, the WWW, and everything.
