I got invited to Firebird Raceway in Chandler, AZ yesterday to be filmed for a new TV show on SPEED.

It's part of "Launch Hour" and the show is called Name that Test and Tune.

The premise is 3 contestants ask you questions about your car at the starting line and then guess what you run.

The producer liked my car and picked me to run last on the episode. He asked me if my car pulled wheelies and I told him not really. My car hooks hard but only pulls the wheels about a foot off the ground.

The temp was in the high 40's and the track was well prepped. My buddy kept telling me to bring the RPM's up at the starting line to get it to leave harder. I usually don't because the car wants to "push" through the lights. But since they were running a .400 pro tree, I decided to give it a try.

Holy $hit!! When I stomped the pedal I was looking straight up at the sky! The car was going up and straight and I just stayed in it. About the time the front end was coming down I shifted into second and it pulled the wheels again. What a ride! The ET slowed about a tenth to 9.83 since I lost the forward momentum at the starting line.

The producer was thrilled with the run. We talked later and he said he may put my run in the promo spot for the show.

They filmed about 4 episodes that day and they are supposed to start airing in February.

Here is a link to the show:

I'll post again when I know more details.

I dont believe there is a graphic for this... so imagine the following printed on little signs that the smiley face guys are holding...

THIS POST IS WORTHLESS WITHOUT VIDEO!!!!

That's really coool! I have to make sure I watch that episode. I always impress the fiance' when she's in the room and the show is on. Most of the time I'm pretty close to the actual ETs.

I"ll guess yours to the thousandth... :)

Awesome man... It will be better with the wait!
Someone will have to figure out how to get it on youtube.

It will be great to see the new axle in action and the paint buttoned up. I think the build ended with primer, right?

    Congrats!

I'm glad I went overkill with the 2" Chromoly axle.

Is streaky black primer considered paint??? lol

Yes the car is fully caged and the chassis is certified to 8.50.

The cage is all custom made and is mild steel.

Congratulations on having probably the most bad-ass '55 Chevy to ever exist. :)

Love that car, and knowing it pulls the wheels back up on the second gear shift just puts it over the top.

I thought Black Primer was paint ??? for us poor folk. It's a hell of a lot easier to touch up :D

  14. try using the same imagination that you used on the smiley face guys on his description of the run. I had no problem, and appreciate his post even without video.

Maybe the BADDEST '55 ever...and that's saying something! Somebody build a '57 Ford to run against this guy, It's a fantastic, stand packin' "Snake vs. Mongoose" style door slammer super show just waiting to happen...

Better yet, how about a whole BUNCH of Shakey style cars from all over the WORLD running HARD and yankin' the wheels in primer or 'flake or pearl at drag strips everywhere! NO pocket shorts or multi-colored rod run t-shirts or neon "splash grafix" or vinyl lettering or 10 foot logos or giant inflatable beer bottles either....Just BAD !@#$ING HOT RODS and baloney sandwiches in coolers.

    ....I'm sorry...lost my head again....

I agree, you have to fire your buddy :). Big wheelies are worth losing a tenth or more, 'cause it's all about the entertainment.

  25. ...my video player is all wacked on my computer but is there a quick shot of your car in the preview (from the link you gave us)? i can't tell my player only shows the left half of the screen and there are a bunch of lines going up and down:confused:

Not necessarily, depending on you definition of "Shakey style cars". With the HAMB Drags, Day of the Drags, Texas Thaw, Dragfest (?) events that keep popping up, the dream is closer than you might think. I think "nostalgia" racing is going to have huge growth over the next couple of years. And the good kind of nostalgia racing at that!

Congrats to the Shakey Puddin' car getting a good run on Speed. That car is bad ass and I'll be sure to tune in to the show.

i saw the pilot for this a few months ago, great idea, but i disliked the format they had at the time. are they still adding an 'expert' as part of the game, or was it three rubes from the stands?
