Some of youse guys don't look very hard. Here's a list of stuff asked for that IS reproed.

    Buick drums
27 roadster door skins (yes, the whole skin)
    35 grilles
Ardun heads (do you live in a cave?)
    32 front wishbones
    34 garnish moldings
    41 Studey taillights
    Thickstun intakes
    Scott tops

Granted, some of these things aren't advertised very well, or may be in pre-production still, but it's usually easier to find an ad for a repro item than finding an original at the swap meet. Be patient, diligent, and use Google.

i doubt it. you have to concider the time it takes to make up tooling. these companies have to draw the line somewhere as to how much time (ie. money) is worth spending on a project compared to the demand (ie. potential profit gained) of the product being (re)produced.

i understand the frustration of parts that don't fit well but you have to figure that alot of these parts you guys want don't realy have alot of demand. some do have more than others but how many people do you REALY think are ready and willing to buy a custom head for an early 20s Chevy engine?? how many people do you think even have such an engine let alone want to hop it up??

i'm just saying. ALOT of time and money goes into reproducing a part. it is an investment that the maker has to put in up front and cross his fingers that when the tooling is done and the parts go into production that the demand will be there to more than cover his costs. i would imagine it happens quite often that someone goes into reproducing something that they believe will have alot of demand only to find there is no market for the parts they have spent countless hours and dollars making. in that case they end up losing huge! some times it's just not worth the risk from a business stand point.

i'm just looking at things from the other side is all, and trying to be realistic.

  6. Got two schools of thought about this.

If . . . some of the accessory stuff were reproduced - Sombreros as an example - they'd be common as dirt cuz everybody and their brother would be running them.

Make it yourself was my other thought.
It ain't all that hard to do.
Then I realized that body panel pieces etc. were the most requested item.

With all the interest in English Wheels and Planishing Hammers etc. nowadays, seems like it wouldn't take too long to develop the skills to make basic body panels.
Nice part would be you could fit it to the car as you went along.

And like most, I find the 'hunt' to be the most interesting part....

  13. I read through the Ebay ad for Lincoln re-pro 39 Ford style taillights and it looks like he wants $149. each for them.

    Technostalgia - http://www.cool-leds.com/lincoln.htm - is asking $149. per pair.

    Hmmmm....

Seems like $150 is the real price. And that's a good thing, as it means they'll remain exclusive, or do you want to run the same lights, everyone else is running!

EMS Customer Service, if you post about the truckload of 49 Merc sheetmetal is true and you scraped it cuz you couldn't sell it, then you should hang your head in unending shame.

To add to the Merc parts thing, what would be KICKASS is if someone repopped a patch panel like they do the shoebox Ford. Either two pieces, forward section and aft section of wheel well, or entire wheelwell lip and some surrounding meat forward. Thats the part that always rots out and nobody makes it. Some companies were making the entire 49/50 quarter but that doesnt help you with a 51 coupe at all. Plus they were $800 a side and I think most dudes thought screw it, Ill fix what I have or even (eek) go glass instead.
