Pushing 58, retired, got hooked on cars after watching my first drag race in 1963, currently redoing a 55 Chevy. I have owned more cars that I can remember, but the one I wish I had back is a 1935 3w Chevy coupe running a 327-375 HP Vet engine, M21 Muncie, and a big Olds rear with 4:10 gears. A true traditonal rod!

Hey, I'm one of us ,too. 58 here.
Started helping my father fixing the farm trucks at 8, Then they sold the farm and bought busses. Help with that shit, too. Bought a 58 chevy for 35$ when i got my license and had to park it at Grandma's house cause they wouldn't let me have a car. Do ya think my parent's knew? Ha! I thought I fooled 'em!

Went in the Bus business by myself in the 70's and did that til around 96. Them were hot rods too, always changing stuff to make them more bulletproff. Had to get out of that cause nobody wants to work anymore, I could not get drivers.

Now I own some real estate, rental properties, At least they don't call me from a thousand miles away with a problem:)/

Playing in my garage is the best part of my day.

My second car was a 60 biscayne, 50$ one, no rust. that's one I would like to have kept.

My third car was a 70 Nova SS, bought it new, I still got that one.

  4. That is the trouble with this sport.

It takes this long to actually figure out what we're doing....

They say it takes 20 years to "get good" at something, and that has been my experience.

    Well,

I'm just 52 (young 'un, huh!)-Dad was a Chevrolet Mechanic, then Salesman (for almost 40 Years)-first car, '55 Chevy 2 Door Post, then a '57 Hardtop-lots of them since then (wish I'd kept some of them)-the one I really shoulda kept was the '69 Z28-

I wasn't going to answer this Thread until I read that Post from zzford^^^-we went and saw that new Movie "Bucket List" last weekend, and in it Jack Nicholson said three things about getting old (paraphrasing here):

    1. Never pass a Bathroom.
    2. Never waste a hard-on.
    3. Be careful when you Fart-you might get something else-.

61 & counting, haven't found out what old is yet.

Hooked on anything mechanical just about from birth. Always took my toys apart and put'em back together before I ever played with'em. Before long I was redesigning'em in the process. Finally started just scratch building'em as needed.
Still doing it, just bigger toys now.

    I'll work 'til I can't, I hate sittin' around.
    Regrets? Those I've harmed unintentionally.
Pleasures? My family, my friends and my toys.

I'm 54 if I remember correctly. Been involved since I can remember, but when I was about 9, in '63, my big brother started drag racing.. that changed everything.
Favorite car? I haven't built it yet. But between my '66 Dart period funny car and my just starting mid engined hemi '27 "T", a'la Speed Sport Special, I may have it soon.

Ill be 61 this year, my favorite Car was my 61 Falcon Gasser that I had a Love Hate relationship with. The only thing I regret is that I don't have any regrets. Although it is a lot harder to tie my shoes today.

  13. I am 65 and also sold many cars that I wish I still had. I have had my big block powered Cameo since 1969.
My favourite cars from the early 60s.
I chopped, channeled, shortened a 34 Ford 1/2 ton in my back yard. It was powered by a 53 Olds and Hydramatic with the Olds rear end mounted on the transverse spring. It was stripped one night while it was parked. The bastards even took the 32 rad shell.
My next love was a 47 Chev coupe. Buick powered with a 3 speed trans and Buick rear end. I sold it to go back to university.
I had a 64 Vette coup with knock offs that I sold in 1970. My wife still hasn't forgiven me for that. Big mistake.

I'm 40, but I'd like to hang around you older guys. That way I'll be younger faster and have a better memory, for a change.

Hahahahaha...here's a quicky: While attending a local Friday nite cruise here in Denver, one of my younger car friends said to me: "Ya know Rog, ALL of my car friends are older than I am. I learn a lot."

I said to him: "It's OK Tyler, all of my car friends are YOUNGER than I am. And that keeps me young."

I'll be 70 this year. There's a 16 year old mind inside this ole bod. Had a speed shop (B & R Speed Supply) and did the drag race thing in the '60s. Still have my original club plaque (Piston Riders-Penn Hills) from 1954. It's on my '34 Ford Cabriolet daily driver. I use it to chase grandmothers, trouble is, it's 50 years too late. Digging this thread.

58 years old and still act like I'm 18....My first car at 14 was a '28 Nash, sure wish I had that one back. My favorites (that are gone) were my two '69 Hurst SC/Ramblers..really loved those cars. Building a '31 tudor sedan right now. I'm sure this one will be my all time favorite until I start on the next one....

I'll be 60 in March; been playing with cars since I was a child. My favorite is the coupe I have now. I've had several hotrods and race cars (oval track) over the years, but this is the one I waited 40 years to build.

As for cars I would like to have again: my six-cylinder '55 Chevy 210 2-dr hardtop and my '60 Pontiac Catalina 2-dr sedan (what a sleeper!).

I just turned 49. I feel I was born too late. My 1st car was a 39 Ford Std. Coupe. 59L block, Edelbrock Slingshot my mom bought as a birthday present from Joe Mac at Ford Parts Obsolete; a set of "Milled and Filled" stock heads that Ferguson wanted for a nitro Bonneville motor, and a H&C dualpoint/dualcoil that Joe Hunt set up for me. (His wife used to give us dirty looks and say,"We don't work on that obsolete stuff anymore!", but Joe would calm her down and always find the parts we needed.) Reath would let us rummage through his parts shelves for what we needed and would tell us some really tall tales. Some of the best people I have known have been car people. Does anyone else have any stories to tell?

Well I'm 62 and have been a car nut for as long as I can remember. My first car was a '49 Ford Tudor, low, black, white walls, & Flathead (that would be 1961).
    The car I wish I still had was a '36 Plymouth coupe that had a 292 Y-Block, beefed Merc-O-Matic, 4/11 possi.
Most of my friends are allot younger then I am but I seem to be making friends closer to my age now a days!!! What's up with that?
Here is a picture of me and ol Gary Mills back in 1963 sitting on my '56 Merc (me on the passenger side).
