a friend of mine just rolled his truck, 04 slt and i was thinking of buying the salvage on it for the running rear and motor ....now my question is. do they make a conversion kit to make this a carborated motor. reason why is i dont want to mess around with the computer crap ?
You have to run some kind of electronics because the 5.7L hemi's don't have a distributor. MOPAR sells a carb'd crate engine, so a carb manifold is available. Street & Performance may sell a harness to install a 5.7L and keep the injection, etc. Good Luck.
There are shops everywhere that can handle that "computer crap" for you once you get everything installed. Once they set it up, its good to go.
With modern engines, computers are your friend You'll loose power and ALOT of gas milage by downgrading to a carburetor. It can be done, but I don't see the point. Wiring isn't all that scary.
i challenge anybody to get the kind of power and mileage i am out of my CARBED 461 olds with EFI on another big block. 14+ mpg around town in a 4000lb car with 450hp and 520ft/lb. stick to the real engines man...build them right and keep it simple. plus the modern engines are ugly anyhow. this IS a traditional board you know, right?
i agree the carb setup is a noproblem set up....and available.. the only thing i dont like for an old school deal...is the coil packs on each plug. they are making these motors as big as 426" today cheapst.
you know as much as everyone bitches about trad/non-trad the majority of use have something about out rides that arnt quite period correct....that said, the engine is a pretty big part of the equation....all of that said...leave the hood closed and install the bitch...I plan on doing something similar when I build the wifies buick....
