Wow...a lot of good builders got boned with that decision!

  2. That's a bummer...it's just a silly looking car. At the end if the day, who really cares about the AMBR award anyway as a couple guys have already mentioned.

  3. Ugly alright. That's some shiney turd! But...I know there are plenty both here and in the US that will oooh and ahhh over it and use it for ideas. Those stupid wheels and tyres for starters.

  4. just shows ta go ya....people really CAN be bought...wait a minute! did I really just say that??? in a democracy?? where 28" bling wheels seem to be a measure of success??? I retract any derogatory remark that I may have made here. There...I think my point is made.

  5. Timebomb John or Rick Dore's car should have won...What a farce!

"Americas Biggest Waste of Money" We have a winner!!!

I agree completely. The wheel/tires are way out of proportion, makes the whole car look like a hotwheels toy. It's taking the big wheels fad to it's ultimate stupidity. The seat treatment is just terrible. Somebody got way to involved and didn't step back and ask, "does this car really look good".
The thing that really makes it stink is it's sitting right next to a couple of examples of what a real AMBR w should look like.
I dont like to criticize other peoples cars, but this one is taking the big wheel/bling factor outside the bounds of good taste.

Appears that he borrowed the wheels and tires off the wifes Cadillac Escalade....

  10. Yeah, that's my pic and I was going to post it with my comment but I really didn't like that car, looks better from this angle than from the floor though! That top was goofy looking too!

Actually im kinda glad a car like that won, it shows that mainstream car customising still really has no sense of history or style, so the mainstream wont be fucking with us for a while longer...

  14. I thought the same thing, I remember the display not the car on it.

So, is there anything on this car that came off a Ford assembly line, circa 1932?

I liked three or four of the AMBR contenders much better (the classic green one, the all black one with the egg crate grill, and the two black and red ones) but when I saw this... and its display, and the humorless square judges with their clipboards... Shit, I knew I was looking at the winner!

Look at the history of AMBR winners, and this thing definitely belongs... as there are a lot of sad looking AMBRs.

I think the display overwhelmed the judges.
On the car it's self things that earn points on a judging sheet may not always be in the best of taste.

On another note I'm glad to see the Ala Kart finally back to it's original glory.

  21. maybe this year the award was broke down as 99.9 points for display and .01 for the car. That might explain it.

  22. yeah ..the wheels and tyres but henry decided not to use them in the end and go with something a little slimmer :D

I just thought of what those "seats" remind me of.. hard plastic benches in fast food restaurants that are intentionally designed to make you want to get up and leave in 15 minutes or less because of the discomfort.
    So sad.

I think they should judge these cars before they are put in the "displays" so just the car is judged and not the furniture
Just drive them up on a muffler rack to judge the undersides.
And I do mean drive them...

  25. Best Paint and the Blackie Geijian Award of Excellence for the Ala Kart.

I saw the winning roadster last year at the Detroit Autorama and Ala Kart two weeks ago when it was about 85% done at Roy's shop. I don't understand how it could beat the Ala Kart. It's insulting for such a historic show car, restored to its glory, to lose to "that" in comp.

  27. I have to say that although the car itself is not my style, I do like the grill. It has a very custom and classy style to it. So if I cold take it off and build a real Deuce around it not a una-bodied Mc Clowns booth, I would. There is a reason the 32 is the much loved "Holy Grail of Hot Rods", but when you take all those reasons away (except the grill) it might as well be a Toyota. The display also was great, but it is not a car.

A travesty of justice in my opinion.

  29. HE must have fixed all the things that were wrong with it when he had it in Detroit last year.

If not I feel real bad for the "SHOW" cars that were probably a lot nicer.

A little bit of the true Americas Most Beautiful Roadster lives in each one of our garages, barns, carports shed and driveways. What makes a car beautiful is that it is ours yours mine , to do what ever we want with. Some attempts fair better than others ! The best part is that attempts can be fixed for the most part. I agree that AMBR has lost its "clout" . But thats ok , we all know the reality of these shows and most shows for that matter. Politics suck, globally , governmentaly and in the old car circles. We have all been to a show where the same cars get all of the recognition regardless of how much neon , crybabie dolls, captains chairs, James Dean plates, and various other doo dads are stuck on the car, where a kid rolls up with a latemodel mini truck with nothing more than wheels ! And wins the "truck" category, cause all of his club mates vote for him! Fuck car shows! My Ford wasnt and isnt built to please anyone other than the 3 guys that built it, my father, brother, and myself. The best car show for me is opening up that garage door and having my car, truck, motorcycle sit there waiting for me to fire it up and go for a ride. Loading up my kids in the truck and going for a ride , even a short blast around the block.Spending quality time with my daughter who at this point still loves her father, and feels like she is on top of the world riding in the old cars with her dad! I could go off on this for a while but what would it help. It is what it is. My coffee indussed rant is over.
