I borrowed this pic from hotrod29.
For looks, it's a tough choice. Hemis, flatheads, nailheads and all but I'd have to say a 409 or 348. Ya gotta did those heads. Beautiful man, just beautiful.

My favorite has always been the big caddy V8 motors, 472-500. Why? Look at em, they look like they weigh more than the roadster they are pulling.

The Buick 425 nailhead for me!

  22. In a Hot Rod (fast, cheap, good looking old car) I think the coolest looking motor is a Small Block Chevy.

There's plenty of old hop-up equipment out there to make them look "traditional" on the outside... and more than enough stuff out there to put on the inside that will make them SPANK all the aforementioned (except the BBC, BB Fords and RB Mopar) motors in power/mileage/ease of installation for the dollar spent.

But I also think the motor has to fit in with the overall theme of the car... a SBC in a 40's era rod is not optimum... while a flathead in a 60's styled car is equally lame...

But if you put a hilborn and finned valve covers on any motor... it'll look cool. [IMG]

48 Hemi, Better read Drj's post again. He clearly states that McMullen had a cammer Ford in his '32 in the 60's. Still holding the CROW recipe.

These ain't coolest v8's but seriously the wildest v8's. Or what do you think? Tatra v8 2,5 litres aircooled Hemi, made in Tchekkoslovakia from mid 60's to mid 70's. Anotherone wild v8 made in Russia, used in army light trucks GAZ, 4,5 litres, aluminium block, about 120 horsepower and always broken [IMG] I'll try to get some photos here. Cool v8's, all pre '59 made in USA, except SBC
