I was watching "Tales of A Rat Fink" for the umteenth time and I started thinking about this when they mentioned his five son's, so does anybody know what his kid's are doing nowadays I would figure at least one of them would be continuing in there fathers footsteps by building cars, or at least a grandchild.
Darryl and Dennis are keeping it real as possable, Reno aka Howard Roth p***ed away about three years ago.Charlie and George have there own lives.....................
Funny you should ask! I grew up with them just like part of their family. Darryl has a Western Auto that he runs and when he has time,he does his "Roth" thing with Dennis. Dennis sells his Roth Flake and sell their "Roth Originals" T-shirts and stuff. George and Charlie don't really have any interest in their dads stuff. Howard, the oldest, did p*** away a few years ago. He was known as "Reno Roth" and was a fantastic artist, pinstriper. He wanted to build a second generation Roth car, like Dennis did with the Maxterion. I heard he was gonna build a four-seater,Outlaw or maybe it was the Tweetie Pie. He also made shift knobs, stickers, and air fresheners with crazy faces on them. He gave me a Von Dutch,Flying Eyeball shiftknob. Dennis,Darryl, and Howard were working on a show like Monster Garage, when Howard p***ed. The promo used to be on a web page, under "Who's your Daddy?" Never panned out. Darryl owns one of Ed's old VW trikes too. They brought it to Mooneyes two years ago. It was in Dennis's booth. You can see their stuff on Rothoriginals.com.
Thanks Bad Bob! it must have been awesome being a kid around somebody like that, I think it would be great to see one of them build a tribute car to honor their father.
Daryl is a great guy i talk to him from time to time he runs a Western auto. I have known him since i was kid 30 years now.
Big Daddy and his first wife Sally, were my Godparents. So I spent alot of time at the house and at the shop in Maywood. Lots of good memories. We went to church together and would go eat afterwards. I always sat next to Ed,when he would go,cause he would doodle on the napkins, tableclothes, and menus, whatever. I used to have some of his drawings on the napkins, but they just fell apart over the years. Never thought of how much they would be worth some day. I remember the boys having flaked steering wheels on their Schwinns. I have a pretty good sized Roth collection, but not as big as Darryls. I dreamed of owning a bubble-top car when I got older, when I was a kid. He was such a big influence on me. I've told the story before about how I left my BRAND NEW Schwinn at the shop one day and Ed striped the whole thing! My dad was so pissed and made me rub it all off with steel wool! It would be worth some BIG bucks now...
I grew up in Huntington park my dad has a shop in Maywood for almost 35 years now.I did not go to school with Daryl he is a little older than me my Dad use to drag me to Western auto all the time.
Hahahahahaha, Bad Bob even looks like Roth, I thinks he has an even closer connection to the legendary Ed, than he makes everybody believe.
Dennis is going to be in Denver at the bike show and swap meet this weekend. According to the flyer they put out.
