Here's something I've had bouncing around in my head for awhile. Remember the dude who had a big head on his shoulders last year who claimed to have built the wheelie poppin "hotrod" and he used the ****pit of a small plane? Anybody? This is also inspired by the recent discovery of the P-38 that was found off the coast of some European country. Anyway, it's generally agreed that if one was to apply a fighter plane/bomber theme to their hot rod, it's almost always more effective to be subtle... less is more. But, seeing as how this is 60's showcars where anything goes, I said, "**** it."
Of course, once the pencil was actually on paper, the "logistics" of such a beast became a little hard to put together (notice all the erasing?) Anyhow, forgive the ****ty scan and let me know what you think.

Thats cool! You almost have enough room in front of the rear axle to add a wet bar and pool table for the p***engers! :D

cool stuff. Fortypickup. that P-38 is great. looks realy "hokey" (as you mentioned) on the surface of it but once i read the details i was realy getting into it and thinking in my head how neat it would be to build something like that. i like the 2 narrow difs and the blwon inline 6s. the suspended ****pit is cool too. mechanicaly that would be an interesting and fun challenge to build. perhaps take some of those ideas and adapt them to a B-ville streamliner. prolly would'nt be the most arodynamic of streamliners but you could see someone building something similar back in the 50s perhaps.

a note on the steering. why not have a sort of flush fitting fender skirt on the front that would turn with the wheels? might not be good at extreme high speeds if it were to act as a rudder but would be completely feasable in street trim. :D we are just dreamin here afterall anyways, right?

Thanks Kustombuilder and Fortypickup ... I sketched this out using fuzzy memories of the P-38 for reference, but after I submitted it I looked up some actual photos of the plane and decided another sketch using more accurate dimensions might be better. I like the front steering idea ... maybe some crazy salt flats racer ... I dunno.

Fortypickup - that Batmobile is smooth as hell. It's a perfect blend of my two first loves: comic books and cars.

I came across this awesome build while cruising myspace. I have had plans in my head to do a 60's style coupe similar to this one since I really like what my buddy Andy Didio did with the Zenor coupe. This is the coolest thing I have seen in a long time! I can't wait to see it done!

Himjively - mad props for initiative and creative execution ... I think it could have started life as a Corvette, but with the amount of bodywork involved, I don't know why you couldn't get the same results with a severly sectioned 49-52 Chevy and maybe a 46-48 Chevy for the front.

    What the heck...
I was sketching with a Bic pen tonight
and thought that this might have shown up
at a 60's car show. So here it is.
    A rod with an exoskeleton.

The other'n I thought I'd post. ( not to be a thread hog.) Yes, I posted this on the Friday shows last week and this week but it was designed to compete here. It started life as Uncle Harv's Fleetliner but entered the space-age in 1961. Parts were borrowed from each of it's GM stall mates. What's vissible is obvious but what can't be seen are the Olds dash, Pontiac V-8 and GMC rear end.
