Am I crazy? (Don't answer that!) Didn't the Bean Bandits have a chain driven car w/the engine mounted side ways in the rear? I swear I saw photos of it somewere… Can't find it! LOL

This thread has been great. I've been looking at it off and on for 3 days. I've saved some of the pics for my old drag racing file I have on my computer. I know I've seen several of the pics on this thread in magazines. Once upon a time I had a large collection of old car magazines that I had saved since I was a kid. I started collecting car magazines in 1964, when I was 12 years old. I lost my collection in a tornado in 2000. These pictures brought back a lot of those memories I had from my magazine collection.

My thanks to everybody who has posted pics on this thread.

I forgot to ask something. Does anybody have any pics of Joe Williamson's E/Altered 6 banger ? It was named Trouble Maker and the 6 banger was a truck block. I think he was from Bowling Green, Kentucky or Elizabethtown, Kentucky. I used to watch him run at Beech Bend and he won several NHRA events in his career.

Elvis...what is the story on this one?

  24. Wow.........you picked a great shot to ask about royalshifter. All these lads are from the Tecumseh Ontario area near Windsor which is right across from Detroit. I believe that pic is from about 1956 at Kohlar Airstrip which became Cayuga Dragway. It's of one of the very early rail jobs in Ontario.

Let me run back to my picture vault...lol......and dig up some more pic's of this very kool track basher.

Here's a picture of their club display at a very early car show in the Windsor area. You cab see their club was called the "Tecumech Valve-Lifters"

I took these when I was a kid. The only one that is fairly new is the Chevy wheelstander that was 1993, CHRR. The yellow rail was driven by Gary Cagle at LIONS, the white Comet is Hayden Proffit (1966), the red Bantam is at Irwindale (1966), the Falcon is Phil Bonner losing to the AWB Mustang of Dick Brannan at LIONS, the Hemi Cuda is Tom McEwen the day he crashed it in the traps (1966), the odd rear engined sidewinder dragster was at LIONS, the guy leaning over the motor on the rear mounted car is John Force's uncle, and two photos of Mickey Thompson working on his dragster at LIONS

  28. Fast Elvis thanks for the pics,i've saved them to show my Dad. Hopefully, this will help convince him,to let me post some of his pics.:D

  29. Ok back to the story behind this bitchin rail job. The DesJardins brothers with help from their club brothers of the Tecumseh Value-Jobs built this very early dragster in around 1955/56. The amazing thing about that motor is that it came out of Roy Desjardins roadster which he drove as daily transportation for work.

They would ripped the motor out on Fridays after work and put into the dragster. They would then trailer it for over 4 hours to Kohlar Airstrip to race all weekend. They would then beat it back home to thrown the motor back into Roys roadster so he had wheels for work on monday morning....I'm tried already from all this motor thrashing...lol......ah the good old days. :)

I've added some sweet pic's of Roys roadster which I may add was also raced. In 1956 Roy went up against Connie Kalatta at New Baltimore Mich. in this very hot rod to win top roadster class......so as you can see that motor certainly earned its keep. :)
