How'd you make the bell that meets up to the wheel?

In my 53 Pontiac, I did almost the exact same thing there. I took my stock 53 column, cut off the bottom end where it went to the box and made a cup to fit in the bottom with the bearing in it that looks almost identical to yours, and held it in with the set screw. Your pic showing the end with the machine screw in place could have been of my column, its that much the same.

Great idea, always love your work.

 nice,I have a little def idea for bell that meets up to the wheel,at the food store there are all alum, and also some all stainless sheel drinking cups that are cheep and can be cut fairly EZ in to a bell,a bit less work then all that leth run. Hold to column tube by JB-Weld and close fit.:D
