Can anyone show me pics of the car used in the 1950 movie "To Please A Lady"...

Its Offy powered, Novi looking, Front wheel drive... I was told that the team that owned the car (actually there were two, but they only used one in the movie) Was paid so much money that they passed on running Indy that year..?... (Thats hard to believe, Most Racers would run indy if it payed nothing.. Much like sprint car racing!!:D)

badgers were not rear engine cars the engine sat next to the driver, isn't an Edmunds either, my uncle had a rear engine Edmunds Midget, and there weren't very many of em. Josh is that some kind of Two Stroke engine? The yellow car was my uncles, the other car is Brad Noffsinger, the black Roadster was built for Howard Linne and as far as I know only ran once at Phoenix on the mile, I was there but was a little kid.

around here, they called a midget with a an engine beside the drive a sidewinder or roadster (the last one always got me a little miffed) there was still one running when I ran my rookie season with NEMA in 2001. When they outlawed the sidewinder style chassis they grandfathered in all the cars still running. Must have been a very fast car in it's day because it still wasn't that far off the pace. car was retired and scheduled for restoration after the race.

If you're asking what that black car is I would say some form of Formula S.A.E. or Autocross and maybe a Mini-champ-Formula Indy car in the Mid-West ??

here are some pics of a badger, built by Rollie Linblad, this was the most succesful one in the midwest owned by Bob Lockhard, in the 70's in USAC it was mainly driven by Johnny Parsons, he was driving it at Winchester the first time Rich Vogler drove my dads car, Rich set a one lap qualifying record led most of the race, got boxed in lapped traffic on the last lap Parsons passed him coming of 4 to win the feature

I've been amazed at how much shocks and tires make a difference on an old chassis. my midget was the one sammy swindell ran in the chili bowl in 1987. it was a challenger house car built in 86 by mike streicher. I ran it on dirt a couple years 99-00 with a VW in it and got championships with it both years. I then ran it as an asphalt car but couldn't afford the big money 166cube motor for it. I managed to pick up an old 151 cube motor from the early 90's. on a smaller track I was still very competitive with that combo. It was easy to set up and on a good day could come within 3/10's of a second of the track record on the 1/3 mile track we ran most often.

Sorry,
For the picture above with no text. This was the first time posting a pic. Anyways, This is a car a friend of mine has. His dad bought this car in 1972 while he was in Vietnam. His dad was told it was a champion car for the 3 years of 1950-1951-1952 in PA. What track? It had a white 3 on it pinstriped in red or orange on the tail and it has a Wohlfeil steering box in it. I don't want to hijack this thread so if anyone would happen to have any info on this car please contact me. My buddie is in process of restoring this one. I will try to post a couple of more pics.http://

Don't worry about it. Thats Why I like this thread.. It got all the Hambers with Vintage Open Wheel Knowlege in one place, checking in... I'm sure someone will help ya out. Killer looking car.

Of coarse if it was mine, I couldn't restore it.. there only original once. Its nice/rare to see a car that complete.

Good luck,

JD

Sometimes it doesn't work out too well (another view of G.B.s trip through the roof at Syracuse that was disscused earlier.)

-----Check out his belts stretching in that picture above of G.B. YOU CAN NEVER HAVE YOUR BELTS TIGHT ENOUGH!! My dad was always AMAZED when I told him that I would get an extra inch or two out of my belts on the first caution, if there was one. I would always have him tug them down tight on the grid cause someone outside the car has way more leverage. But, as your body settles in and you relax more after the green is dropped.. things change.
