Heres a couple pictures of the 31 Model A Coupe my little bro and I are building. He's only 19 years old and Im 24. I recieved my 6x2 Edelbrock intake today in the mail so I decided to mock everything up for some quick pics. Everything you see is homebuilt, by us for us. The stuff that we dont know and cant figure out we go to THE HAMB for info. The chassis was made from 4x2 square tubing. We borrowed the rear crossmember from the original A chassis. Everything is currently tacked in case if we need to change something. It will have Cowl steering and a Ford 9inch rearend. Well enough rambling, here are the pics. I almost forgot. The engine is a 1964 OLDS 394 High Compression, with a 6x2 edelbrock log intake. The carbs are Holley 94s and the valve covers are of course Offenhauser. Im still looking for a valley cover and linkage for the carbs. I bought the body in Texas. I drove 20 hours non-stop all the way to Austin. Plopped it in the bed of my truck and 20 hours nonstop all the way back. Well of course I stopped for gas and fast food. Coupe bodys are way to expensive here in Southern Cali.
That is going to be a very nice '31 when its done. Good job. Hope you can finish it without much trouble
your coupe shares a lot in common with my tudor, its got no floors, no subrails and no roof!! im glad there are others out there willing to jump into something so needy!
Im sure that frame is still in mock-up, but I sure would plan on making up some fish plates for the notch in the back...other than that...keep going. Its looking bitchin'
Awesome. I'm jealous. BTW, thank you for taking the time to make your hose clamps straight and consistent with each other. Keep that eye for detail throughout your build and it will look top notch. Good job!
Chopped about 5.5inches, channeled about 4inches, Z'd 3 inches in the front and Im not exactly sure about the rear. Whatever felt right I guess.
Im still looking for a grille if anybodys got one. Either a 30-31 model a or a 32 grille would be nice.
are there any plans for paint/primer? do you have any pictures of the rear of the frame after the axle was in? got any interior shots? dash? sorry, im a needy bastard!!
Looks good ... The only concern I have is the front end set up... It looks dangerous.. I would consider redoing that... Also bring it in about a foot....you don't want to loose your life over being low...one snap and that frame is in the ground flipping you over... To me the long wheel base looks wrong..it should all be tight Axle, Grille, Motor ,Firewall should be as close as possible to each other... Aside from that I love the motor and the fact the you 2 are doing it... take your time and remember...FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION!!! evel
Nice work, guys. (BTW, what part of town are you in? I'm over by Wilson.) One quibble: gotta agree with Evel on the wheelbase--and not just on the death-cheating factor. Something about a shorter wheelbase just looks a little better to me--more period piece/less rat-rod. Otherwise--nice work. That Olds motor rules, and your chop and channel are just right. Good luck with it!
how much caster do you have in the kingpins? from the angle of the radius rods either you cut and welded to get that angle or you're gonna have one hell of a time making turns.
