I see the discussion on the tire to body clearance. I expect bias plys flex more than radials, so how much do you guys reccomend for the clearance. I see an inch and a half listed abbove, is that minimum, or a good rule of thumb? The only bias plies I have any experience with are Hoosier dirt tires, Goodyear slicks (for turning corners) and Goodyear rain tires (race), they were much lower aspect ratio, so I never had to deal with it.

I've read and heard lots of stuff from both sides. Some guys can never get them running right and some people swear by them, even on street cars.

I'll be sending it to Vertex and have them go through it and set the advance.

If it doesn't work for me... lesson learned. For now though, I'll enjoy messing with people's radios at stop lights. :D

I was taking a closer look at your body and I'm not sure that it is a Special Coupe. These cars have a unique roof with recesses for the trim (see attached picture) that I can't make out in the pix. You could certainly add the leatherback to a Standard Coupe, but it was a unique body.

OK, I see it now, no body line around the back of the roof!

Yeah, like Gotgas said, the driver's side of this body has been "shaved and filled"... if you can call it that. The passenger side has the stuff you're talking about:

It will be an adventure, and definitely a learning experience, when I dive into that mess!

While I'm here, check out this picture of my grandpa that I found. Pretty sure it's a 28 Buick. He had good taste

It's been WAY too long

So I have the brake stuff ready to go in.

And I have my reversed Corvair box that needs a mount made for it.

Last night we started cutting and notching to mount that and then got a little sidetracked. It started with some small cuts then we had to take out some bigger pieces... then I finally decided I wasn't a big fan of the floor to begin with so we just cut it all out

Look at all of that damn bracing under there! When I redo the floor it will be thinner than what I took out and probably have some beads rolled in it.

I also had to cut out the homemade package tray. It was 3-4 inches higher than needed and it was definitely cutting into my fuel cell space.

And so I don't get too far off track, I'll get the brakes mounted this evening and make a steering box mount when I get back in town Saturday morning.

How did you come up with those bumps over the trans and driveshaft? Did you bend these yourself or were they recycled from something else?

I actually didnt do any of the bracing in the body. When I got the body it was already channeled and had the floor in it. It looks like tube that was just bent and cut to fit though.

Feel free to come check it out. :)

It's been slow. Lots of traveling for work has really been cutting into my garage time.

There's a chance I'll still be rolling to Austin in it though.

Myk (mykwillis here on the HAMB) called me with an offer I couldn't refuse a few days ago. He has some shop space at the moment and he knows how much I want to take my car to Austin... and he also knows I've been traveling a ton. He's going to do some work for me this week. Barebones type stuff just to get it safely on the road. I have no problem outsourcing a bit. I'll suck my up my pride and gladly take his kick ass help to be able to cruise to Austin and back.

If all goes to plan, I'll be one of those fucks with the "ratrod" looking piece of shit at the show... but eveyrone can lick sack for all I care. [IMG]
I'll make it pretty after April 6.

It just got loaded on a flatbead late this morning to head to Garland.

Like I told some other guys... if nothing else, I think I fucking nailed the stance

I thought that was just the firewall

LOL. Yes, I have all of the other stuff. I took it off so I'd have more room to work while doing other stuff and just haven't put it back on yet. No worries. :)

    Myk?

He's doing the steering, fuel lines, brake lines, cooling, wiring, etc. Basically turning my roller into a bare bones driver MUCH faster than I could ever think about doing it.

The stance is perfect. Do you have all of the leaves in the front spring?

Right now there are 2 leaves in it, with a spacer between the top leaf and the crossmember. I took them out while I was doing mockups with the engine out so I could compress it easier. A few of them might end up going back in.
