I've 'met a good number of them, but I wish I had more time and the oportunity to hang out some with "Big Daddy", Don Garlits. He is and always will be the man. guys like him are why I still keep after this. There's a bunch more, mostly racers, but "Big" is the king.

The two guys who shot Mickey Thompson and his wife before they did it.So i could ask them why...

  17. I'm a huge fan of Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins. I cloned his 68 Camaro, Grumpy's Toy IV about 12 years ago. But, I did introduce myself to him back around that time when I saw him at Pomona and talked with him a bit. Prior to that, I'd say he was the one I'd like to meet. If I'd want to meet someone else? Warren Johnson. I'm into horsepower, and he's one of the most "hands on" dudes in "door" car racing out there. I have much respect for that man

  18. I'd be tempted to STOP them, instead of asking why. Mickey was a HUGE asset

I've never been one to go the celebrity thing even when its completely earned like those artists named above. For me its guys like Plowboy and Chopperman from here would be a start. Love those builds and I like drinking beer too :)

Then Denise, as by knowing her, I'd know everyone :) :) :)

Well this was an interesting read. One name not mentioned (likely because he is dead) but that didn't stop anyone else is HB Halicki.

I would think having a day or two to run around with him would have had to have been a couple days to remember.

I'm sure it was just a bad day but I was a bit dissapointed in meeting Garlits. Had some to do with the way he treated Ohio George. I dunno, just didn't sit right with me. Like I said though, we all have bad days.

Ohio George and Tommy Ivo both acted like they were more pleased to meet you than you were to meet them.

But just to say "C'mon, let me drive in this scene" to HB Halicki would be a dream.

I was fortunate to have met Gene Winfield right after I sketched up a car with his trademark fadeaway paint (and thanked him for his inspiration) in the sadly now-gone Custom Rodder.... a true highlight! Great, personable guy...
I've also ben fortunate to have worked with some guys whose work I've always admired...
To make it all complete, though? Larry Watson and the Alexander Bros. would be great...
