I was still in the things when I was 48. I'm glad I can no longer afford it.

When I started racing at age 9 my dad said, "We'll do this till its not fun anymore" I remember thinking, "Whatever!! This will NEVER NOT BE FUN!!!" In the year 2000 I retired from racing. I was still young, 25.. and I had no life. All my money went to the race car, I worked two jobs, When I wasn't at work I was at the race car shop. Come friday night when guys my age were going out and getting drunk and chasin women, I was preparing for race day. You can't drive fast on a hangover. I didn't go to car shows, weddings, family vacations, party's, nothing.. IT WAS GREAT!!

I was fast my last year, everything went right. I won 4 features and the Lawrenceburg Track Championship... BUT every minute I was at the track my head was elsewhere... Thinking about what else I could be doing..

So, I walked away. Since then my dad has built two hot rods, two vintage sprinters, and has a room full af cool shit.. I've built a bunch of stuff, and caught up on the hell raising I missed.

I'm just glad we kicked the habbit as early as we did..

BUT, like roy said.. I would never trade any of it back.

IF YOU GET THE CHANCE... DO IT. YOUR ONLY HERE ONCE, YOU"LL WISH YOU HAD.

Love the front wheel treatment on this car..I'd like to copy this on my T-Mod project, Not sure if it would look right with the normal Moon speed disc, anybody have any ideas on creating such a wheel cover, p.m. me if you can.. I know you did something like this on the .5, and 1.0 car Josh where did you come up with the disc's I think I talked to you on making the 20" rims in the past but never hammered you on the speed disc's idea...Ryan

I talked to Mark about the front wheels.. He said those were not covers.. They were some sort of Mag spindle mount wheels off of a tractor.. He said they didn't work though, and failed!

The Dynamat .5 car has 18" inch Rolls royce spare tire covers. Rare, but not imposible to find. But, for the 1.0 car The owner of Dynamat, "Scott whitaker" had the tooling made to manufacture the same looking cover for 19's and 20's Call dynamat and ask to talk to scott. He's goofy.. you might get him to come off some.

  9. This ain't exactly a sprint car but it's pre-'69. I'm posting this for Roy C....it was taken by a friend of mine at the '66 Knoxville Supermodified Nationals.

I had done the same thing. What is worse is the people who have gone to jail for doing illegal things to support the racing habit..Some are theives,, Bank robbers one who got caught in GA. and big time drug dealers. A very famous one from south fla.. G.B is back in jail for the second time. I still am involved in racing and I spend other peoples money and very little of my own... This is a great thread keep them comming....

Now that's interesting. A jacobs ladder to locate the wishbone. I'm trying to picture how that worked. It would be interesting to see how the drive line was designed. I keep picturing something binding. The wishbone creates the arc that the rear moves in, but now the pivot point moves!

Not sure butit looks like the pivot point is adjustable, but will not move once adjusted.

I am sure Roy will check this when he gets up (works nights) and set us straight about this one.

They didn't stay on the car long BUT they were on it long enough for Joe Saldana to break the one lap track record at Terre Haute and at that time the car had a 355 engine running against 410's

    Generation drivers..

I think he's an Asshole. I am PROUD to say, at age 11 Me and later USAC driver Joey Kerr ran down the backstretch tree line, through the woods, over the fence, into the pits, and got to Sammy's pits just in time to see Hewitt Punch Sammy in the mouth and say "take you candy ass back to west viginia!"

But as much as I dislike the Ol' man, I can't say enough about the boy. Kevin is the real deal. He soiled any doubt we had of him at a USAC SPRINT CAR show at the burg this past summer. On a wild night.. (ELEVEN RED FLAGS) The burg was HEAVY!! They dumped the water to her and EVERONE WAS HOOKED UP. The battle was "Who could loosen up their car enough to just make a clean lap!" The first two guys out to qualify Hooked the right rear and FLIPPED.. By them selves! The next 4-5 guys out, kept bicycling and and lifting, and jumping outta the place.
    Then came Kevin..

He came out and flat ass COWBOYED that car around the Burg. He was on two wheels, one wheel, no wheels... AND SET A NEW TRACK RECORD!

He has been impressive everytime I've seen him. As the old saying goes..

If he survives, he'll be a good one.

I raced with drew fornoro and his son nokie. couple class act drivers. nokie's pretty damn good in a supermodified too.

unfortunately, gene's wife just passed away recently. her and gene were the backbone of northeast midget racing for a long time.
