 Maybe I am not a true rodder, yet, but I have a question.

For instance, when replacing a four cylinder motor with a bigger motor in a light Model A what is the point of hopping it up??? The bigger modern motor is increasing the horse power many times over and hopping up a big motor gives more cost, lower mileage and usually a motor that does not run as 'good' as a stock motor.

Just curious as to all the reasons.

swapping is good for power and reliability in older cars. if you wanna be real fast you hop your **** up. some people just put on random parts to try to gain horsepower but really dont understand what they are doing and thats why they run worse. personally i keep my motor pretty much stock, buit it all depends on what you wanna do. this is a hot rod forum, and the main characteristic of a hotrod is having increased horsepower.

    Personally, i like power..
The rumble of a bigger cam, more hp and crisp throttle response from higher compression.etc...the ability to shred a set of tire's easily if i so incline myself too....
Stock will absolutely get you down the road the same as a hopped up motor will, but the one hopped up will get you there faster.

    that's only me though...

    WHY???
give that 'antique' motor more horses or replace with a ground pounding fire breathing tire smokin wheel lifting trouble causing monster.

thats why hot rods came to be in the first place. thats why we are here on this site. ---- hard to get into trouble with a stock model a engine. - dont want a soccer mom pullin on ya in traffic with a caravan full of car seats shutting you out in traffic & you have to follow her through the single lane road construction! :D
POWER MAN! thats the name of the game! --- smoke the tires, pollute the air, make some noise, snap your neck, etc etc...............

Simple, so you can outrun the guy with the stock "bigger, modern motor". And if you do it right, it runs a lot better than a stock motor.

Theres at least 35 different and correct answers to your retarded *** question. sorry.

  13. Really, is a Model A even practical? Our family of 4 is squished in it. The crew cab truck or the van is way more comfortable, but what fun is stock? Loud pipes save lives. Original ****s! I wanna go fast!

Dude that thing looks like it needs to be cir***cised. **GAG**

PERSONALLY, I think not everything needs to hopped up. Something just magical about the way a stock engine looks. Especially when talking about closed cars. Anything with a hood really doesn't need some high dollar super rare speed part.

    Who's gunna see it?

Open hotrods..........eh, I go both ways. I love the look of a blown flathead, but think that a stock 389 with FACTORY tripower will look just as groovy in my Poncho roadster.

So to any guy who bashes you for NOT wanting to hop up every damn engine that comes your way, tell them to **** eggs........or that clam thing. *GAH*

    What every one else said.....

Plus just because you "Hop up" a motor doesn't nec***arily mean it will get lower MPG. A properly built and tuned high horsepower engine can get better MPG than a low compression slug.

Please go back and read my original question and rethink some of your answers. In your rush to put me down some of you jumped to some extreme conclusions.

First off, I am not questioning why putting a bigger motor in an older car. I am not criticizing anyone who does. I am just asking a simple question to see some of "the 35 reasons why".

    Geesch!

    to answer your question:

No you are not a true hot rodder or a hot rodder or a rodder.

you probably think this old car looks "neat" and hope to keep up with traffic...
