Here you go the latest and greatest!

What the heck is this, looks like a Fake Caddy fin with tail light lines in it. Anyone ever seen one or have good pics of some?

Those were aftermarket accessories sold by places like J.C. Whitney and Honest Charley's, so your Chebby could look like a Caddy.

Lets just say if I bought them the guy was throwing in a fastback chevy.

  8. They look like aeroplane tails.

  9. Years ago I went with my dad to look at a '50'ish Buick with a bunch of this stuff on it. It had pot metal fins about like that with red jewel type reflectors in the bottoms, a big visor, flourishes under the door handles, non-original Buick portholes in the fenders, every Warshauski or JC Whitney doodad some gook could find back in the day. It was a little surreal seeing it all sitting there rotting away in the far far back field of a local dairy farm. The car was beyond repair but, in hindsight I wish I’d had enough since to go back after all that crap.

There was also and accessory similar to that but had a functioning taillight in it. I've seen a set or two over the years on 49-52 Chevys. A "mini-Caddy" kind of thing.

Back in the 50's, only the geeks would put that shit on a car. That and a "Y" pipe to make it look like you had dual exhaust.

those are so cool... I wouldn't put them on my car , but they'd look swell on my junk shelf.

I've seen the smaller ones with a tail light in them,, and had a pair of the same type of thing for a 49 50 ford

How about Whitney's "discount" house: Warshawsky's I think? It was a JCW catalog, but with minor discounts....and sometimes weirder stuff - haven't seen one since HS

by the way...off thread - I've finally given up cigarettes after 45 yrs or so.

I sold a set of the shoebox ford ones, like the ones crestliner posted, on ebay last year. I think they brought $40? I think these fall squarely into the rare but not desirable catergory.

These remind me of those spinner wheel hub-caps that they sell at Shuck's! "They're like the cool kids have, only different"

  25. Here's another shot of some "faux fins" on a Crestliner on Shorpy.com.

The rest of the car's pretty sweet too, especially if you ignore the fins.

They would make a cool set of book ends for a shelf in my shop.

  28. Now that's funny, I had the same thought. Just the same I'd still run those just to make people scratch their head's.

They look like crap on a car but would look good on one of my handtrucks in the shop or as guards on my bench grinder.
