  2. First of all, I'm not showing off, I'm sharing. As was requested in this thread. I never said having thousands of dollars of anything makes a car guy. So, I'd consider it a favor if you quit putting words in my mouth. You seem to have enough trouble putting words in yours. Have you ever been to some oldtimer's place, and seen a bunch of cool old shit? Maybe, I hope you're really paying attention here, that stuff was NEW at one time, years ago when he bought the stuff. Someday, the things shown here, will be exactly that. If that doesn't suit you.......can you guess how I finish the sentence? I collect a lot of car related stuff, as do others. Just because we didn't PRINT the old magazines we collect, or MOLD the old plastic model kits we collect. Does that make them not relevant? Don't answer, it's a rhetorical question

  5. I LOVE redlines. Why are you appologizing? Fantastic collection

  6. PS-in response to some of those posting here in the negative, that just don't get it? There's a lot of fans of the hobby of cars out there, that because of limited funds, or family comittments, live their love through the diecast, or other means. I met a guy online a while back that could not afford one Hot Rod. He was late 40's, and never had a Hot Rod, and said he prolly never will. But, sonofabitch, that dude had an absolutely incredible library of vintage drag racing videos that was just amazing. THAT was his thing

  7. LargeB,
I saw pic's of your collection on the other thread I did on collecting other stuff. The only thing I see that I wish I still had is the carrying casses. They fell apart.I only kept the tire cases. Then my mom bought me a showcase to display them in. I just love the old Redlines!!!! Believe it or not, when my boys were younger,we would take them out and race them on my old track! I even pulled out the parachutes so they could see how cool it was! Remember those?

    You tell 'em, Grouchy!!!

Speaking of putting words in someone else's mouth, I never said there was anything wrong with collecting die casts or collecting anything for that matter....my point was that a post about these particular collections (redlines excluded....thats an awesome stash Large B!) on the HAMB was goofy. Guess I'm in the minority on that one. It's clear we're not on the same page and you'd prefer making personal attacks anyway, so I'll leave you alone Grouchy. :p

It's definitely OCD! I kept all of the original boxes for years. When I moved down to Florida, I finally tossed them all. Without a basement, it was difficult to store them all. I must have about 400 1/18th scale cars, a boat load of 1/25, and who knows how many hundreds of Hot Wheels/Matchbox/Racing Champions/Johnny Lightening, etc. Like some of you, I would be at the local toy stores as the trucks arrived, pushing little kids out of the way to get what I needed. I stopped buying them a few years ago, then I get hooked up with my girl, who has been collecting them for the last few years. I thought I had gotten away from this, apparently I was wrong. Here are some pictures from all over the house and there is plenty more in boxes in almost every room tucked away.

  12. "I" prefer making personal attacks? I think that ship sailed with your "retarded" comment. But, hey, I've been wrong before. You? Just cause it's store bought (many of us don't have foundrys to cast our own), is it unrelated? I'm gonna go out on a limb here, and say you cast the 1st stone here. I'm not grouchy, I'm Grouch OOOO

  13. Great arrangement around the TV. Gives you something cool to view during commercials

Yea you're WACK ! Me too ! What I do is leave them in whatever package they come in if you can see them (window box, Hot Wheel type card) . Then I get picky about the boxes or cards being mint. If you can't see them in the package I take them out and I don't worry so much about package condition, but still keep the box. I guess I would be classified "ANAL OCD"

Here's one I "worked on" at MM. Older casting, worked on new motor, blower, front dirt track tires, pie crust slicks and graphics. Heck, it's not even available yet, should be in a few months.

  17. These aren't quite 1/18th scale but I'm posting them to see if anyone knows the story on them.I got them off e-Bay the other day.Bottom says,"Copyright 1999-Ed Roth" which means they were available when he was alive. There are 4 different ones(graphics that is)but the Roth logo doesn't look right. Were these perhaps done by Reno Roth or maybe even a bootleg? I got them from a guy here in Michigan and he currently has another set for sale.Any help would be greatly appreciated.BTW they are about 4" long.

Everyone has their favorite real car. For whatever reason, that's the one that you never get bored with and can always think of a new way to build. But unless it's a mainstream buggy, finding models of it can be frustrating. After 20 years of thinking that the diecast companies would never give me a '64 Falcon Sprint hardtop in any scale, let alone 1:18, Yat Ming came to the rescue with these:

They were Futuras, but I wasn't complaining. I've built plastic 1:25 models since the '70s, but as you age, you need to work with bigger stuff so you can see what the hell you're doing. So I got into modding 1:18 cars in a big way. It started with a little extra paint and foil detailing years back, and took off from there. The first build on the new Falcon was a '60s road race version with a Shelby GT350 R code as the donor for the complete chassis and drivetrain, most of the interior, roll bar, wheels, and other stuff. Parts box vintage AMT decals and monocote stripes and numbers finished it off.

Then I decided to do a few of them with Thunderbolt style teardrop hoods, so I fabbed one up and had a number of copies resin cast.

Using the Hotwheels 1:18 pro street '57 Tbird as a donor, along with a resin 1:18 427 Cammer engine sold as a Christmas tree ornament, both culled from ebay, I built the Krylon orange pro street version with custom 8 point cage, fabbed interior, race seats, and other things from the Tbird, other cars, and lots of plastic sheet and tubing.

The Falcon model was already about 75% Sprint out of the box, even down to the tach, so I used a few contacts from the model car world to have these photoetch detail sets made up to convert them to Sprints the rest of the way.

I don't see this addiction ending anytime soon.

    Sean,

I don't see muscle machines in the stores as much are there certain stores that carry them now instead of Walmart, Target etc.. and did they ever make any Buick cars.

MBTex, the MM relaunch is a Wal-Mart exclusive. Not sure if it was a 6 month or 1 year deal. Off the top of my head I don't recall any Buicks.

Keep an eye on Castline's M2 Machines line, as we do have a couple of Buicks slated down the road. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=242459

Nah, I didn't mean for this thread to be for 1:18 stuff only, post up what ever ya got ! Hot Wheels, Match Box, Corgi....I dig 'em all ! The reason I posted up my "new" stuff is, 'cause that's all I got at the moment. And yes, I did buy them recently why ? Well, as I said in my original post, I'm trying to rebuild my collection after it was stolen, so I apologize if it doesn't meet someones criteria..... I do which I had the forethought to hang on to my old Hot Wheels & Match Box stuff. Unfortunately, the ones I didn't give to my neighbors kid met an untimely death at the hands of vices, hammers..etc... After all, I had to have some crushed cars for my monster trucks to drive over...:D
