  4. In ref to the Bowles rear engine car. Looks like the engine in this car is a Chevy V-4. Chet Wilson built these. The block is cut in half as the cylinder heads also. The heads were cut right between the center ports. Fuel injectors were used and it looks like the ignition is sticking through the hood. From what is visible the bottom head bolts look like Chevy spacing. These engines had a sound all of there own!!!!!

Thats right. treat life like a race, "I ain't here to make friends":D:D:D

(although, thats what racing gets you.. Life long friends! That will stick with you through the lowest of times, as mentioned a few pages back about being addicted to racing and doin with out the little things, like food, sleep, wives, houses..)

A old racer by the name of "Ray Chiekie"(Spelling? its pronounced Shy-key) came by my shop the other day. He raced Daytona when it was sand! He was a USAC official and a flagman for years.. Some of you might know him.
Anyways, he gave me a bunch of pictures of old race cars. This is one of them. In the early fiftys guys started playing with aerodynamics.. I dont know who this is.. Anybody care to guess?

The streamliner "fad" of the mid 50s never went too far, here's another from 1955.

Mickey Thompson extended it in the 60's with a variety of swoopy looking cars. Dave McDonald was killed in one of Mick's nicknamed the "Rollerskate".
After that, the Indy folks asked Mickey to stay home.

Chief mechanics Travers and Coons (the wiz kids) were building that car for Vuky when he was killed. It was gonna be to big of a rush to get it done by indy, so the team decided to take there time with it, test it all year and return to Indy with it the next year.. In the meantime, the team owner Mr. Keck, told the trio of vuky, coons, and travers to find another ride for indy. They did... and vuky lost his life in it.

Actually, this car was not sponsored or owned by a Cadillac dealer. This was Lester Robertson's car with a caddy engine. I think the driver in this pic is Buzz Rose, but I might be wrong, after all I was only about 3 years old at the time. Although i did get a chance to drive for Lester much later- 1987. Lester was quite a character. If you ever get a chance to or if you have read Joe Scalzo's 1974 book "Stand on the Gas" there is actually a few paragraphs on ol Lester about a USAC race at Ascot in the mid 60's.

Actually, this pic of Hogle in the original Tamale Wagon was taken in 64 at El Centro.
Having won the championship in '63 they earned the right to carry the #1 for the 64 season. This car was built in 1958 by Roger McCluskey and was raced till the 68 season. And it was competitive every year it raced.

Yep. I Just made the mold right before Christmas, I plan to have bodies availible this summer. I have two finish the car I'm building now before I can start kicking them out. I have three right now, but there all asigned to cars. There gonna be One piece, HAND LAYED and around $900 bucks... The Nose is blank when it come out of the mold, you cut your own hole for different grilles.. Look for them to debut at The HOT ROD REUNION in bowling green.

    Thanks,

    Joshua Shaw

This was the first body straight outta the mold.. I cut the gas hole, grille and hood out, but NO BODY WORK.

All I did was sand the Mold line, put a HEAVY coat of high build primer.. blocked that and shot this with Centarry single stage black. I wanted to see how straight they were..

Beautiful work there Corngrower, and that's a super price. With the growing popularity of re-poping old racers, you should do very well indeed.
