Has any body tackled making their own long style louvers such as this on a '34 Willys? I would really like to make a tapered louvers.
These would probably have to be done with a beading machine and beading/louver dies. A Pull Max machine, a metal working machine that punches and forms flanges and louvers in metal, would be one of my choices for these long different length louvers. The beadroller/ swaging machine, with slitting/beading dies would be another less hi-tech. way, and probably less money. S****ey Devils C.C.
One way to do this would be to make a hammerform and shape them into that. You can shape the detail into the edge with a hammer and dolly, or stake.I believe this could be done with just basic tools also. Give it a shot, you may surprise yourself! Tim @ www.irrationalmetalworks.com
Trumpf does this with a ''following'' die bottom is sortta an 'L' and to a bump cut in half..... these machines are on eBay all the time and are much cheaper than a Pulmax but make sure you get the tools you'll be lookin foe ever First p*** cuts the metal 2nd bumps the louver. To make a long radius you'll need make a long guide for the metal I'll try to find the die photos
I would contact HAMB's own Randy Ferguson. s He hand builds many Willys parts. He has a site -- http://fergusoncoachbuilding.com/ HTH
Look for a picture of Savage's deck lid. I think Metalshapes has done some long louvers on his pullmax too.
If they are factory, they would have been stamped. Bead rollers, and most reciprocating machines, are not ideally suited to making tapered louvers. They could be hammer formed, similar to making a blister.
