Well I was going to pick up a 27 RPU this weekend, but I could not bring myself to drive 10 hours round trip with gas at 3 bucks a gallon. So I went an hour and a half away and foud this model A fordor I think it is a 30 maybe. Anyway i paid 300 for the entire body and he threw in the frame for an extra hundred. Th frame needs some work new horns and one section needs to be straightend. Any way my wife was with me and she thinks a spent to much money on rusty metal. $ 400 bucks total and 20 in gas. Tell me what you think. Oh any opinins on converting it to a 5 window coup?

It's actually a 29. You paid about the going rate for a 4dr shell. Are you missing the center door posts?

As far as converting it into a 5W coupe, that would take a ton of work and it'll never look like a real one. I think it'd best just be built as a 4dr.

I personally would have gone for the '27 RPU that was 10 hours away. Looks like the more door has seen some better days. But I guess it's what you get for 400. I paid 1200 For 2 Tudors, and got a Four door free! Good luck with it though. Not sure how your going to accomplish the 5window Coupe thing though.

The only problem with those model a fordors is the use of wood... It's going to cost you a fortune to purchase the wood to get it back together, the wood top only is like $850. Luckily the one I have still has a lot of good wood.

Make an ext pu out of it!

The wood is a ***** in them cars..... unless you use angle iron etc.. even then you'll still have a bunch of time in it.
The frame looks to be a 30-31 tho it can be used, but it would need a front crossmember.
If it was me I wouldv'e p***ed, but I tend to be a bit picky tho.
It appears to be missing all the garnish mouldings, the regulator plates for the doors(I do see one) the gas tank.
If you have enough time you can make something out of it tho.

Ok now I feel like I ****. I thought it was a good deal. I still may get the RPU still. Just have to wait a couple week. No center post, I figure the wood is going to replaced with still tubing. If any one has pics on the way it supposed to go together I would appreciate it.

There is a guy on here that got a cowl and 4 doors and built a nice lil rpu out of it considering what you got there you are looking at as much if not more work to build it up to a 4 door than a rpu or a modified. I think with the right amount of time you could get it to mockup as a modified for about a grand. I mean its all there you just got to work it man.

You could make what we used to call coudan. A fordor with two doors removed. It's not easy, but doable. Makes a pretty neat little hot rod.

You bought it, so don't feel bad. Just get after making it into something that you want. Those seem to work well made into modifieds and pickups.

It is a 30/31 body and with a lotta work you can make something out of it,,,but I don't think it will be a coupe without a lot of work and the rear of a coupe,,,

And all the model A frames are the same,

If all else fails it will make cool yard art!,,,that's what I did with mine,,HRP

Wood kits are expensive and a ***** to install correctly. Did a 31 vickie One time and when I got through with wood somebody offered me a really nice profit. I thought I had done well untill I figured my time up. Lost my ****. It will be time consuming but possible. 5 window coupe would be close to impossible . Thanks, BOBBY FORD

Its yours now and its not in a graveyard. Be happy just for that. So figure out what you want to do with it to make it something your stoked about. There is alot of options if you have time, skills, and some cash. I keep seeing it low and sort of limo like when i look at it.......ummm but maybe thats the 4 door gettin me. :) Panel?

It would be easier and cheaper to make a rpu out of it. That said, there is a post on a shortened Murray that might interest you. In any case it's yours and your can take your time and do what you want with it. Good Luck!

I dont think you paid to much for it... but it needs alot of work and its a big project. If anything you could sell off the parts maybe and make some money back if you decide you dont want it. I would have drove the hours to look at the other one tho...

  22. be different...build a fordor!

seriously, you could make a cool little phantom like muster did with his pontiac...or you could part it out to model a restoration guys and make your money back plus some to pay for gas to go pick that 27 up.

Down here in OZ we had lots of wood framed cars ,in fact right into the 1930's because of laws in place which prevented cars having imported bodies. So ,most rodders learnt decades ago to make a frame out of 1" square tube to replace all of the wood. you should do the same and forget about the wood . you can hang the doors and fit better catches and som on easier when working with the stewel frame and it's really simple when you sit down and think it out.
