it's a 28 or 29, notice the top of the cowl is not the tank, it is all one piece, the standard 28/29 gas tank slid in from the back.

these bodies were built for Ford, that is why the doors and body have more wood. the still used the Ford tank under the cowl and many other Ford parts.

here's one I used to have, the wood in the doors was perfect and I bought the rear panel for a 30-31 truck. I wanted to build a RPU out of it.

I am starting to think an extended cab pick up move the cowl back suicide the doors still. Have room in the back for fuel cell or jump seats or whatever.

  8. howcome the windows arch so much on the doors...
    rear wheel well are smooth?

Yeah I was thinking same thing, but part of me says stick with it and create something really *****en. It may be a good lesson in doing my homework first. I appreciate everyones support. I am still going to get the 27 RPU and maybe hang on to it. I am thinking about and extended cab PU.

with your heart set like that you can only give up when the going gets tough... if you think about it, you are 7 steps closer to having a ol' rod than alot of people, including myself. I have to keep working on my project (even though its not what i want) to hope i can sell it for enough to buy something like that... you cant be afraid of hard work and dedication - and if you think about it, this is one hell of a car to learn on, because if you mess up, who cares!

It could be a cool project, just dont settle on something that your not sure you want, your only a few hundred dollars into right now. You dont want to have that same unsure feeling after you've spent five or six thousand bucks on it, the cl***ified section is full of projects people were unsure about and kept sinking money into.......

I said I think its a 29, because someone said it was a 30/31 and I was just agreeing with the first post saying its a 29. I should of said IT IS a 29 instead of I think.

If no hits on my claasifeid add I am going to make a extended cab pick up. I am going to the decatur swap meet this weekend to see if I can pick up odds and ends and to ask questions to anyone ready to help with answers. I need a need I new front cross member for the frame. Rad shell, maybe a cool dash. I figure it's going to be a good place to learn some stuff. Thanks for the ecouragement.BTW, does anyone think I am doing diservice to the car by chopping it so much? Should I feel at all guilty about converting this thing in to something totaly different? You know destroying history?

no disservice at all cuz whats the other option, getting melted down and made in to some ****box part. and what history its just a beat up model A its not like it was some famous rod. and it will be alive and cooler when your done

This same car was in another thread about 2-3 weeks ago. I remember someone commenting on the body parts being from different body manufacturers. I think $300 isn't too much. It's nothing compared to what you're going to spend.;)

Making a coupe is really not feasible unless you have quarter panels and the expensive deck lid, BUT May I suggest that you move the rear of the body forward, leave off the rear doors and add a pickup bed!
This gives you an extended cab and is a useable vehicle.
Having the roof is a definite benefit when its raining or the sun is just too hot for a roadster. You end up with the best of all combinations and its a reasonable amount of effort.
Restoring the body with new wood is not recommended by restorers because of the very great difficulty of getting all that wood aligned good enough that all those doors will fit properly.

  22. I've sold ****tier stuff for more money to people who were more than happy to find it. Just do what they did in WWII and make a pickup cab out of it.

  23. Yes, it looks like a Murray. The high arch over the windows is what they usually use to identify it and differentiate it from the Briggs.

Man you bought that *****, I was planning a road trip to get her. Don't let people scare you, build the inner structure out of square tubing and your good. Also don't worry about it being a moredoor, you can do the sedan delivery trick, it's yours and that is ALL that MATTERS. Good job.:)
