This was jacks last gasser and quite a inovative car,the rear suspention was an open olds with a jag style torque arm.hooked up real well,i posted a copy a while ago of the original paperwork that jack had lent me explaining this suspention.A second hoodscoop was used molded upside down under the hood for the blower hat induction, simple but effective.Weight was such a concern the tube axle would bend on hard landings or from the downward force from the chute,he would put a chain across the axle and use a bottle jack to pull it straight between rounds. This car was quite competitive in its day.AHHHH when racing was fun.He has suffered from a stroke coupple of years ago but still goes to work daily and runs his speed shop with his sons.

My friend Vinnie Musicaro in NY is restoring the Jack Merkel Gasser that Royal Shifter put up. Royal or Gary, if you have any more pictures or info on that car he could really use the help. He does not have any pictures of the interior so he is pulling his hair out trying to figure out what color it was. Contact me if anyone has any info or pictures. Thanks Karpo

I met vinny a few times and we spoke,I showed up while he was painting the car at a shop in bellmore. While i was there i was with a buddy named larry kelly who knew jack and worked at charlie duggens speed shop at nite when it was being built.Vinny has spoken to us since,he has done a fine job restoring it as well as roadrat eddie has done lettering it.We dont have anymore info ,just what jack has told me when we speak from time to time.I still use him for stuff i dont do.If anyone will have more piciuers it would be kev or royal.Btw they are my new heros for pushing this thread as far as it has gone.I have gone through it 3x and still see things i had missed.Keep it up guys, great job.

Dude, that car is inspiring in so many ways!! Cars like that haunt my dreams.. Did they have to pry you out of the drivers seat? I would have brought a sleeping bag and slept in it!!

The car is very bitchin and has a soul feeling....center steer....rearend welded to the frame. And if Bob says it will be restored, I know he will make it just like the photo.

There is a TON of history right here in this thread!
    Thanks everyone for posting.

This was one of my favorite cars at BJ this past Jan.
Don't exactly remember what it went for, but it was a lot...$375,000 or $675,000?

[IMG] After 72 hours of messing with photobucket, I think I've got the hang of posting full size pictures. Here is an old friend of mine Bill Lazuraz driving "Mr. Wiggle" AA/FA at New England Dragway in 1969. This is just one of the cars that came out of the Edmund St garages in Malden,MA. a real hot bed of racing activety in the 60's and early 70's.
