But what did they really get besides a slightly squashed 32 cowl minus firewall? The rest looked to be beat to a pulp.

buy a 50's 4-door. Even when mine's completely done (I will have put almost 15k into it with paint and everything else...) I'll be lucky to get 10k cuz its got too many doors

this is an old pic, it is pretty much finished now. it just needs lexan cut to replace the cheap plexi windshield i have on it and the scallops need to be pinstripped. the carbs are newly rebuilt and need to be played with to get it running right. everyone pretty much said i could get 10K for it. but given the **** on epay. i would hope to get more. any offers?

It's about time!! I'm sick of taking all the blame...............

For what it's worth, I would be cautious buying if you can't actually look at the car very carefully yourself. Just about anything can look well built in pictures, there are so many buyers remorse stories. Not to say that it is impossible, but it is tough to find a sound 10K car now

It's cool that she is into it though

Man, this is a long thread and I didn't read all of the posts, so forgive me. Not knowing your wife or women in general, maybe what she is asking you to do is just pick one that you have, finish it and get both of you on the road... soon. Like this summer. She's just going about it in a nice, round about way.

    Just a thought.:)

  12. This was at the Puyallup swap meet this weekend, I would call this car a HOT ROD not like the stock 50's-60's cars in the thread. 41 Ford Super Deluxe with a running 292 Y block ford under the hood, needed tires, $8750

This KILLER 46 coupe was in the cl***ifieds also, it needed some cleaning up but would have been quick... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=239368&highlight=46+coupe

For 10k or under and some luck with parts, you should be able to build a nice T bucket or 27 track roadster. You may even be able to buy one built. Or for about the same, you should be able to find a late 40's or early 50's sedan that needs a little work. Maybe even with a modern v8 already installed.

I've seen quite a few in this range. Not long ago I saw a 47 Chevy, fresh paint, 35 sbc for $7800. Needed an interior and it was done. Plenty of early 50's Plymouths and Dodges around for a very reasonable price and in good running codition. Really depends on what you will settle on for your $10k. Not going to get a turnkey streetrod/hotrod for that price, but if you could go to $15 or $16k, your selection gets much better.

If you are serious, I would check out some of the upcoming big car events. Quite a few Goodguys shows coming up in CA this Spring, bound to be a lot of vehicles for sale.

My '48 Fleetline Aero cost me $300 delivered from it's wooded resting place in MD. The rest is love, hate, and money. It's my car though. Ya gotta take the "bad", w/the bad. It's almost on the road, and I have about $3,000 in her now. We cut everything rotten off the body, put it on an S10 ch***ie, then continued to **** the **** out of it.

It took alot of owed favors from my pap, and a few from my pop, just to get it to where it is. I had a drive shaft cut down for free, and a radiator cooked and pressure tested, and recapped for $20.

Old cars aren't cheap, and I'm doin one on the cheap, but it ain't running '40 ford juice, nor would I. It's my car. I think the OSR/Rat culture is messing people up, but so be it.

When they buy their dream cars, and realize how much work, blood, and BS it takes to get their car done, they will stash it away for a week, and I'll contact them in a month.

Their are car people, then their are those sorts. I'm licking my chops.

I would probably get this if I were closer... looks like you could have a cool little jalopy for just about 10K. I have almost the "buy it now" price in my model T already!

The blue chevy and the roadster were built for less than 10K. The yellow RPU took a little more due to the extensive bodywork that had to be done to salvage it. I guess it's all what level of finish you're shooting for. It can be road safe and well built yet lack a little polish. All these were built to drive and that's exactly what they all do each year with thousands of road miles logged year in and year out.

Do a 49-54 chevy or Ford or something slightly newer. When I had a 10k budget for my last ride I was able to find a few that got my interest.

I bought my 1930 Model A with a flathead v8 for well under $10k and I had been driving it all summer. It is far from perfect, but it's a great starting point. I'm currently working on the front end--doing a spring behind axle conversion. Even with the mods that I'm doing, it will end up being under $10k. I found mine at Billetproof for sale. The seller didn't sell it that day, but I ended up becoming friends with him and he ended up cutting me a deal. Craigslist can also be your friend in your search for a hot rod.

That's a neat little p/u. I'm in the same boat, although I'm just a little closer than you are. If I were closer to check it out I'd probably get it too. I've always wanted a rpu.

nah man, there are more ****in east coast/mid west transplants filtering into california everyday... the natives are moving OUT

Mitch - i agree with the other fella's ... $10k wont buy much other than a stocker... what type of car are you looking for? 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's?

  25. mike...
not REALLY looking, just kinda working my head thru the idea...seeing whats out there for what kinda money...in todays market, i'd probably wind up money ahead just sticking with what i've got.

see, mrs. alteredpilot would be cool in a tbucket, sled or muscle machine...she just likes cool cars.
me, well, you know me....light, fast, loud.

the more i look at it, its probably just easier to put hers back together, spend a few bucks on upgrades, drive it for a year or two and then blow it apart and do it right...it wouldn't take much to make it a reliable driver, but its gonna need full cosmetics at some point to avoid mullet-mobile status.

it this point, its not worth selling my sedan...

I don't know about that. How many times do you see in an ad : $50,000.00 invested, apraised for $35,000.00. $29,000. o.b.o. Personally, I've found buying someones in progress or completed project vehicle is usually cheaper than starting from scratch. I hate to mention "B-J", but you often hear them claiming "You couldn't build it for that"as the hammer drops. A lot of the time, it's true.
