so i come out of the supermarket about a month ago to find a nasty 2 1/2"- 3" square dent under my right tail light, then two weeks ago i come out of my house to go to work and notice a 3" wide white streak on my left quarter panel running all the way from the gravel guard to the taillight(but no dent ). this morning i go outside and notice a crack in the paint on the rear door, and a red streak running up the ridge of each bumper guard. why is everyone hitting my car! oh well, im gonna strip it down and redo it this summer anyway. hope this doesnt keep happening after that. sorry if this rants o/t but i had to vent somewhere.

Pick your parking spots better.:) i try to park against pillers so morons can only hit me on one side and never in shopping places with sloping car parks ,after I lost a trolley once and ..never mind.

  3. That sucks. And, it's a good reason to drive a beater.

I always park at the far end of the parking lot since most people or too lazy to walk. So far, my car and truck are dent free.

back in 1962 my dad had just painted his 57 chevy hrdtp a candy red lacquer. 35 hand rubbed coats of paint, for the next month he was rear ended 4 times. so after a few months goes by without harm he gets it repainted again 2 weeks later he is out running the cops during a drag race and rolls it 7 times wheel to wheels. the real killer part of the story is his is sitting in jail waiting for his dad to come get him and some kids come in and tell him that there is people stealing parts off of his car. thats insult to injury!!!!
but the good part is at least he made the front page in the local news paper..........

I've been hit 4 times in the 4 years since I painted my daily. Once by a crazy Mexican lady that learned quickly what the dotted white lines on the road mean, some ass clipped my tailight area in the snow while my car was parked and drove away, some weekend HD rider took out my other door and wheel well bad, and then an unknown gash down the same quarter.

When it was in prime, no one came near it. Believe me man, its not just you.

You experience is precisely why I don't have the balls to drive my lowered '49 coupe to any place where "citizens" may hang out. My late model is a battlefield of dents, dings and scrapes. I had someone scrape down almost the entire length of my car with their bumper, denting it deeper as they went. Now that takes talent.

It comes down to two key ingredients: giving a shit and the ability to drive. Both are lacking in big cities (at least here). Most citzens are diving a leased econobox or van and don't give a shit. There are also too many people who have not driving ability whatsoever. They put the key in the ignition, pull the lever into drive and hope for the best.

The fun part is hit-and-runs are considered "at fault" accidents, so I've spent $100s having the shit fixed on my tab. The lower the car, the worse it is when they hit it.

I'm afraid there is no solution and after you get fresh paint on your car it will only hurt more. I'm very selective on where I park my coupe despite the fact it's in primer.

it s funny though, cause ive been driving this thing for ten years, and no one has ever hit it. th en it gets hit three times in one month! i know its not "traditional", but im thinking of mounting wide angle security cameras in my bumpergaurds, or just under the bumpers, so i can at least track down people when they do this. im sure they wouldnt last long with road dust though

doesn't that defeat the purpose of driving a classic?

Sounds like a good reason to find a chunk of hardened steel and make a frame hook. Put it through your rocker, weld it to the frame, and then it will rip a gaping hole in the bastards car.

this same shit happened to me about a month ago.some ass drove his plastic bumpered piece of shit down the side of my truck then split, however i was fortunate enough to not have put my fender supports on and it alowed it to flex enough where i was able to rub out the scratches and it did not leave a dent.but i was freakin out because i have been driving it for six years and never had a problem!!!

There are plenty of cheap classics that could classify as beaters. More contemporary, but certainly cheap winter beater material is a '74 Ford or a 1950 Plymouth that's a little banged up.

Kindy funny, after I painted my 37 candy blue I'd park way out in the parking lot too. One day the wind kicked up, plenty of empty parking lot to get a shopping cart up to a good speed, you can guess what stopped it! Another time I came out to find some jerk parked next to it, just him and me way out, WTF, guess he wanted to look at it or something. Of course I had a fresh door ding, his door looked much worse when I left.

Get a 56 Buick. A dip shit backed out of her parking spot , across the drive lane and ran the side of her Chrysler Seberling rag top across my Buick front bumper ( with the top down no less). It wiped the whole side off the Chrysler. I wiped the Chrysler paint flakes off the Buick bumper and you couldn't tell anything happened.

my wife was reading this thread and reminded me of my neighbor that backed into my car just hours after i painted it. i pulled it out of the garage to let the sun flow the paint out a little and my neighbor rang the doorbell saying she hit my car. i lived in a zero lot line development so this was possible(look at avatar) ,the drives were only a little over a car length long. so my buddy Robert and i with the wife in tow went to see what she was talking about. sure enough there was a hunk of paint missing. the first thing out of Roberts mouth was "well you've got your first scratch out of the way, now put this thing together and drive it"

I'm paranoid as hell about parking in public lots. Seems like even when i park out in the boonies section of a lot, it seems like people will feel the need to park right on top of me. When was 17 i scrapped up enough money to have my ride painted. I was so psyched...but two weeks later some one backed into it in a parking lot and jetted. I wanted to cry.

Now I'm not a big Viper fan but I can appreciate anyone who owns one to try to protect it from parking lot bozos. So this guy parks way in the back and yea he takes 2 spaces but the lot was only about 20% full.

say a fat guy in a prius. eating a chicken leg reading the newspaper AND talking on the phone. he was steering with his knees. yeah his car was all smashed up!

  27. When I had a '59 Olds I come home one day and some asshole who pulled in to look at it, hit the fender somehow in the process of leaving. The car was parked in the driveway, well off the road. Maybe it was the same asshole who couldn't tell the difference between $50 and $500 when he pulled to the shoulder one day and asks me how much it's for sale for, and then goes "if it was $50 I would have bought it"... well no shit dummy, if it was $50 it would already be sold.

I got tired of the crap in a hurry, thats why the Suburban I drive now looks like total shit. The one time anyone hit me with it, it bent the bumper a little, and did a good $1500 in damage to his BMW, the fender on it was torn and not fixable, and so was the piece that went across under the headlights and grille. I didn't even care enough about the damage on mine to hit the bumper with a sledgehammer and push it back into place.

Hopefully going to a 3/4 ton that sits still higher off the ground will help that much more, someone pulls in front of me I'll run right over top of their Prius-loving ass.

Found a great way to stop the asshats from hittin the back of my old trucks, weld 4" pipe to the frame rails & weld an old trailer hitch to that. Be sure that it sticks out 6-8".
Had 2 immigrants in a Caddy drive right into the back of me & you could hear their fan plinging on the end of my hitch. I laughed & drove away, leaving them in a cloud of rad smoke!

Years ago, around 1966, I saw a very nice black Plymouth Fury parked all by itself in a lot and then watched a woman in an old Pontiac park right next to it. She then proceeded to open the door into the side of the car, and since she weighed all of 300 pounds the old Poncho was sagging a bit.

As she exited the vehicle with all the huffing andpuffing you can imagine, the door kept going up and down gouging deeper and deeper into the side of the Plymouth. Not only did it wreck the paint but as it came up, once she had rmoved her bulk from her car,and the car was relieved of it's load, the side trim on her car removed the side trim on the Fury and left it dangling from the one clip that didn't give way.

She then waddled off to shop!

I took her tag number and left it on the Fury. I figured SOMEONE should leave a note.
