Oh ****, I forgot about my adventure downunder.

Syndey to Caines back to Townsville
then across to Tenannet Creek then up to Darwin
then down thru the whole center including Ayers Rock and Cooper Pedy
Then to Adialde, west to Perth
Big loop in the western part then back along the southern coast thru Melbourne
    and back to Sydney.

25,000 MK in about 10 weeks in a brand new rental car. Boy were they PISSED (and I don't mean drunk) when I brought the car back. Unlimited milage baby!:D

  2. How long ago were you in Oz?
I LOVE putting miles down way out in the middle of nowhere. One of the highlights of being in the Army was road party's to and from exercises. Man I don't even want to think about how many miles we would have done, mainly at 80kmh! You name it, I bet we drove there!! It may be half the distance from Darwin to Perth along the coast but it takes almost a week longer, 8-12 hours a day.
    I miss that.

Yep, driving in the outback is like nothing I had ever experienced before. I still have an outstanding speeding ticket that I got while crossing the Nulaboor.(sp?) I couldn't believe a cop was out there. One of these days I'm sure it's going to catch up with me and while driving in Australia I'll get pulled over and arrested for it....till then:D DocWatson....can I get your cell number for bail money???;)

Some great road trips on here. Kudos to everyone that puts the miles on their cars.

My first trip I remember was when I was 4 years old in 1971. Rode from Lyme Connecticut to Daytona Florida for the 500 in the back seat of my Dads '56 chevy 210 2 door hardtop w/ 389 pont 3 2s and 4 speed.

Last year Jeff Hiboy32 drove from Abilene KS to Austin TX for the Roundup. Great trip!

But I think my favorite trip was in 1993. Met my future wife that summer and asked if she wanted come with me to my brother's wedding. Drove my '64 Impala convert from Manhattan Kansas to East Haddam Connecticut in 24 hours. Top down. And she had only known me for two weeks. The rest is history.

  12. '40 Chevy convert, 29 years to do 158,000 miles - hell, that's only 5500/year. Lots of trips to St. Paul, Memphis, Columbus, Louisville, Indy. Most I've ever done in one day was about 1100. Made 2 three week round trips (2205 & 2006) Muskegon to Wendover with lots of side trips. About 6500 miles in 2005 with my wife along and about 7400 in 2006. The old Chevy is a great road trip car.

I drove the 1970 mustang, mach 1 that me and a friend built in highschool from kenai alaska to whitehorse b.c. We were trying to go to Portland Or. but we jumped it off of an 80 ft dropoff in canada instead. Man that was 20 years ago and my back still hurts. All in all it ****ed but we did do 1800 miles in less than 24 hours before our youth and need for speed launched us over the cliff.

My best entry in this game comes from17 years ago.
Calgary Alberta to Montague PEI is a distance of 3238 miles.
In 1991 my wife and I loaded the roadster with ourselves, our 4 year old son and 2 year old daughter and headed east.
We were on the road three weeks, a week down, a week on the island, and a week home.
On the way home we went right through Alberta into BC to our family cabin before coming home, that way we could say we drove 9 of the 10 provinces.
With diversions along the way we racked up roughly 8000 miles that trip.
And one burned out tail light.

Too cool! Gotta love a car gal.
That reminds me of MY favorite trip. July long weekend, 1995. My future wife and I drove my T-Bucket from Calgary to a car event in Regina Saskatchewan (550 miles) in one shot. The weather was nice so we left the top at home. It was also her birthday that weekend, and this was the first time she'd been in the car on the highway. We got sunburnt beyond belief on the way there, then it poured rain for most of the trip home. We had friends in closed cars travelling with us and they offered her a dry spot in a warm car, but she kept saying "I came out with him, I'm riding home with him". We'd been going out about 6 months at that point and I figured she would never get in the car again. Boy, was I wrong. She's quite the gal...this May we'll have been married 11 years. :D

No odometer at the time, Santa Fe NM to Springfield MO and back, Santa Fe to Normal IL and back. Loved that second trip because my brother and I (and others) drove our trucks from:
PECULIAR (mo) to NORMAL (Il) in one day. Thank god we didn't stay normal!!!

Love to hear others road trips, especially when they have heartwarming happy endings. Congrats to the two of you for not letting the best things that happened to you slip away.;)

Thanks Denise!! She's a real keeper and I don't plan to let her go without a major fight! She even let me drag her over to the frozen wastelands of Manitoba to live last month. :p

Here's a shot of her standing behind the Es***, freezing to death helping us load our new project on the trailer on the weekend. Looks nice and sunny, but the windchill temp was close to -40!

Well, it might not be the furthest, but its worth mentioning due to the conditions... My buddy Karl "KAOS" Kruzie and I drove this hot rod from Cincinnati Oh. to Oklahoma in MARCH!!! We left at 6:00 pm and drove through the night. It was 40 degrees. WE HAD NO WINDSHIELD!! OPEN HEADERS and ONE FRONT BRAKE (long story but we actually left home with only one, knowing it!) OH YEAH!! and the heads were brand new, NO TIME ON THEM! I was litterally packing the whiskey and luggage in the trunk as Carl was running the valves. We re-ran them in the middle of the show in Oklahoma.

It was cold... it was loud... it was one of the best times I've ever had in a hot rod.

This pic was taken at the show.

    Joshua Shaw.

This was in '99, and I don't think I had discovered the HAMB yet! Won't happen again.
