Mini update but I've got a lot done... Got half the chrome back. Had to re-do a couple pieces because they couldn't get them cleaned up well enough. But the headlight stands/shock mounts turned out great. Been doing a lot of cleaning up and painting...just rattle can for now, enough to keep it looking good on the road for a while. Supposed to be gloss black but it all turned out kinda semi-gloss. Oh well... I took a couple of the wheels to get powdercoated...gloss black....my god are they gorgeous! The other two should be ready tomorrow. Had the front tires put on these today. I was giddy as hell, still am a little. Came home today and finished bolting enough of the front end together to put the wheels on it. The brakes are chrome F-1's. They are on the wrong side but it's temporary, just wanted to see it all together. They are what got me started on all this chrome stuff in the first place... The headlights look high here, but with the motor in the chassis, the front end comes down a lot. Hopefully I'll be able to get the rear end back together and hung this weekend. With any luck it will be a roller again by Sunday. Thanks for looking!
Okay...I get it! It's a mini- update, not a mini- Modified! You confused the shit out of me,LOL!!! Looks great man! Keep them coming...
Your pics cinched it for me. Apprently I've got two of the same side backing plates. My drivers side, the spindle is in the way of the wheel cylinder. What tires are those? I see them but never knew if they are an implement tire, dirt track, or what.
Your car is looking great...I 've been following along since the first mockups. I like the chrome pieces...nice touch. I'm curious too...how much to plate the headlight/shock mounts? I have a suggestion. Take another pie cut and taper your front frame rails from the cowl down to the size of the frame horns...to get rid of the step. The rest of the car is coming together so well...I just think those rails look too heavy. But that's just some internet jockies opinion... Thanks for keeping us posted with the progress. Neal
Thanks everyone! Reggie - the X-member in this thing is from that frame you gave me however many years ago....thanks a lot buddy!! Yup....at this point though, thats a lot more work than I have time for. You are right, it will look better, and it's in the plans....but it wont happen until I blow it back apart (whenever that may be) for some real paint. I expect to have to fine tune a few other things on the frame too, which (other than the time issue) is why I haven't painted it yet. I'm having a local place, Hands-Off Polishing and Plating do the chrome. Nice work if you make it clear to them that it needs to be nice. It's kind of a friend of a friend deal on the chrome work so I'll just say I'm getting a good deal.
I just can't get good pictures in my garage. Got the rear tires on today.... I can't wait to see this thing back in one piece again.
Still moving forward, Roundup is coming fast..... The wheels look great, It's going to be a shame to cover them with the spun discs.
Man i bet sitting down at the Auto Rama was killing you this weekend. I remember Kens getting to that point and the feeling in the air was electric. Looks killer and i can't wait to see it...Hel i can't wait to get out of schooland start a ground up project of my own.
Looks really good. I agree with Reggie on the headlight stands. And it's neat to see someone build something like that stand and spend the money to chrome it on a hot rod. (as opposed to an all out showcar)
Thanks a lot guys. The tires are just the Coker dirt track tires - fronts are 5.0 16" and the rears are a massive 8.90 16". The uh...color, is just red oxide primer, for now. Eventually it will be black or dark blue. No time for paint, and it needs a lot of work to be that nice still. All in due time. Don't know if I'm going to make the drags. I'm planning on hitting Decatur but may blow that off. Too much work to do this weekend. Couldn't drive the Olds to the drags anyway, one of the front shock mounts tore itself off and took a piece of the frame with it. Neat, right? Got the rear end hung last night.
doesn't look like you allowed any room for a drive shaft ? good luck with the heads up racing in the no drive shaft class ? it should not matter to you guys who wins ? and should be as mutch fun to watch as the rest of the heads up races..........
