That kind of problem is why I was once considering buying a military surplus 'light armored vehicle' back in the late 80's (think Chevy Blazer built out of 1/2" plate).

 

A little O/T but my grandmother just gave me her pristine '98 LeSabre a couple of months ago. A few weeks later, I was sitting in the parking lot at night school, and some girl pulls into the spot RIGHT next to me when there were like 50 other open spots, then opens her door right into me so hard the f*cking car moved, then offered up an 'oops sorry' wave. I wanted to kick her in the face.

A few days later, my future mother in law somehow manages to do the exact same thing to the driver's side.

I've managed to accumulate almost two dozen door dings since then, and I'm a careful parker.

 

My daily is a silver S10 with a little rust, blacked out trim and wheels, and dead stock. Noone every touches it. I used to have a 66' Pontiac Parisienne convertable. Triple black, and just had fresh body and paint, lowerd and rims. That car was an asshole magnet.

I took my pontaic and parked it all by itself at the mall, way out in the boonies, so I wouldn't get dinged. As I was walking back I see some stupid older lady ram her cart into my car, not one, not two, but three times, to keep it from rolling away as she loads up her escalade that she parked accross two parking spots so she wouldn't get her new car damaged.

I came up to her and asked her how she was doing and she answered in perfect english that she was fine and it was a beautiful day. When I asked her why she though that my car was a cart stop, her response was "its just an old car". When I told her that she was going to pay for the damage (3 dents, and several paint gouges in the days old black paint) she starts yelling at me in some other language and hops in her SUV and takes off. She ran a stop sign in the mall parking lot, got clipped, and hopped the curb into a couple of other parked cars. Everyone watched her, and we waited for the police.

Turned out she was using her daughters drivers licence (they have the same name) and the SUV had no insurance and the wrong plates on it. They were a rich family from india that had moved to canada and got to pay for everything she hit, including my car, out of their pocket, plus some real big fines, and a totaled Escalade.

I sold the car and kept the money.

I work for a major mfg and get a new "evaluation unit" about every six months. Every car I have turned in has been door dinged, bumper rashed, or dented by some careless ass. These are brand new cars and people just don't give a shit. I parked my daily personal driver on the street in front of the house the other day. Lady across the streets starts backing out of her drive way and I hear the crash and see my 70 GMC suburban lurch fwd. I walked out and sure enough she had totally destroyed the endgate on her shit box minivan. She looks at me in disbelief and says "My beepers never went off" Referring to the rear park assist sensors in her bumper. I look at the burb and saw a little dent under the righ rear 1/4. I just smiled and said "sometimes you just gotta turn around and look.

 

i'm freakin jinxed... a couple of years back i'm driving my fresh 61 bubbletop with a big block. years of work, thousands of dollars, less than 50 miles on it,
i turn into the driveway at work and wham. some ditz slams into the rear. got a big insurance check.
last year i'm driving my newly finished '65 dually to work, years and thousands, when wham. a deer does his death dance with the front end. got a big insurance check.
just finished a 65 suburban and no way am i driving it to work.

Well at least I know who does the damage to my cars. It's my wife. She went to move a really nice 66 vet so she could get to her station wagon that was parked in front of it.Cranks vett and forgets it is a 4 speed. Car leaps forward and hit the bumper of the wagon and tore the headlights up and cracked both fenders all the way back to the cowl. Wagon is fine. About 4 months after that she backs out of the garage and hit a 78 silver anniversary of mine right in the drivers door with the bumper of her new wagon. Wagon is fine. Hadn't had the vette 4 days. About 2 years later I went to the mercedes dealer and bought a brand new 560sel. She backed into it and did a shit pile of damage to the quarter. Her wagon is fine. Moral of this story. That's true, I wouldn't want to drive one. But it certainly does have the appeal of being able to park aggressively and squeeze into spaces without worrying for a second about door dings.

On the other hand, so does a '91 Ford Festiva or a Yugo, but that's just a travesty.

I always try to park the farthest away I can in the parking lot. It drives my old lady mad, but I always say, would you rather walk or have to deal with me be pissed off for the rest of the day?

 

yeah, make that four times. i go out to change my points this morning and found three HUGE dents on my front drivers fender. in front of my house!!

 

DAMN dude! So you officially have the target car. Might as well get that striped on the back, or maybe a big bullseye. Any traces of paint from the other vehicle? Perhaps a neighbor or their little bastard of a kid?

 

the only thing they left behind are some silver metalflakes,but those coulda came from my candy, and theres also some blue where my paint is missing,but it looks like my shade,and could be rubbage from my own chipped off paint. i already scoured the neighborhood and didnt find nuthhin. theres four contact points, so im thinkin some kinda truck with a grillgaurd, or offroad bumper. im gunna put up some cameras

 

Local guy parked a 50 Ford tudor he had just finished with his dad out in the boonies at a mall. A moron digging around in the junk on his floor, while taking a high speed shortcut accross the lot T-boned his 50 square in the side and totaled it. So much for the "far end of the lot".
