Paypal Autorenewal got me after I had not recieved a couple issues and didnt get a single issue after that. Emailed... and Nothing. Finally Gave up. Bummer cause I liked that magazine. I think I am still owed like 4 or 5 issues but oh well. I am too busy to be tracking down magazines.

Paid for a subsription at the very first Lone Star Show, meet Stoner and David Perry.
Great Guys. Got a black baby doll tee for my girl. I was plenty excited. Never saw a single issue. Not one. Called Stoner on it a couple years ago and he asked if I had a receipt or a cancelled check. Years later and the burden of proof was with me?
Screw me once, shame on you. I repurposed the tee as an oil rag.

All this hype about it, I've never been fortunate to see the damn mag. What makes it so freekin great, anyway? I have a hard time believing a magazine is worth all this bs....5 pages of people *****ing and sending payment so they can get no copies. Maybe they have fixed their problems, maybe they haven't... but why should anyone want to get a copy anyway?

it seems to me that those folks should send out some sort of notification to all their subscribers. sort of a customer information and explaination rather than get everybody in a huff because we don't know what's going on. just a postcard would do.

we're mostly understanding people, once we know what there is to understand.

Garage used to be really cool, now it is all fashion and "look what I have on and how nice are my sun gl***es". I t is like looking at Vogue or something. I knew it would happen once they sold out to the man. Plus I used to get it for free. If they ever send you guys your subs ask them to send you two, one to **** on and one to cover it up with.

I've never seen one of the issues so I don't know what I'm missing. I do know that if you are having a problem with something purchased with Paypal you can file a complaint and most usually get the money refunded. I suffered through all of Tex Smith's growing pains and the days of hiding Rod & Custom as part of Hot Rod so I know the feeling.

Looks like they've been spending their time working on the website. Garage is a great magazine, but they're now owned by someone who has zero experience in publishing other than being featured in magazines, and this is what you get. When they first started out of their own garage, they published an issue whenever they could. It is ***umed that if you have a multi-millionaire backing your rag then you can publish when you want to instead of when you can afford to. The last issue was in October, that was 4 months ago. Why is that? Is there no money? Has someone turned off the spigot? Garage is not making money so it's not a priority. Magazines take a long time to turn a profit, some never do. Even those that don't have experience in publishing know this. Your subscriptions don't even cover the cost of the paper and ink that you're holding in your hand. Luckily, I've never subscribed to Garage. I have every issue from the first one, each one I've bought full price on the newstand. In hindsight, that is the cheaper way of dealing with them because according to this thread they have had a problem with fulfilling subscriptions from day one, and if you subscribe you still have to go to the newstand and buy your copy. I don't think anyone at the mag or ***ociated with the mag are intentionally shady, I just think they don't have much experience putting out a magazine. Maybe someday they'll hook up with an established publishing company because PayUp****er Publishing is just that, with no real effort to give you anything that you pay for. As a side note, I did notice that PayUp****er Publishing is nowhere on the new website. If you bought a sub, that ****s because you'll never see your money, and by the sounds of it you'll be lucky to see a magazine in your mailbox. Jesse always makes sure he gets paid but he doesn't give a **** if you do or if you even get what you pay for regardless of what he has said here. How many of you have contacted him and how many has he got back to? He's got enough money to pay every one of you back that has ever bought a subscription but he never will because you are the ****er that paid up.

I'm ***uming you don't know Jesse... and as such you are just pulling ***umptions from no where?

I agree, they have problems (obviously) but I do believe they are working on it. That's no excuse, but I also believe there is no reason to attack someone personally. Two wrongs never made a right homie...

I'm not attacking no one and I'm not making ***umptions. I'm just pointing out what he is capable of and everyone knows what he has done. I have always enjoyed everything that Jesse has been involved with, it's just dissappointment on my part.

***uming only makes an *** out of you and me.

I’ll have to agree with Retarded, if it wasn’t for The HAMB we’d all be completely in the dark as to what’s going on? Garage has made ZERO effort to contact any of their subscribers in any way to let us know what the deal is? I mean seriously how hard is it to at the very least post some kind of blurb on their site or even answer a customer service question. I’ve waited patiently along with everyone one else but now I’m getting pissed!!! In like 20 months I’ve maybe gotten 4 issues at random times, but my renewal was charged right on time. Obviously we’ve all become the ****ers that are paying up… You guys can all sit and wait for the “light at the end of the tunnel” but I’m getting **** off the tracks… <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

I've been waiting since July and have nothing yet. I e-mailed them last week, and also received nothing. Jesse did give his personal e-mail, but nothing comes from that either. I guess I've lost $20. Oh well, I've certainly lost money in worse places.

Think again, Paypal doesn't care about subscriptions. Doesn't matter the cir***stances, I kinda think they get a kick back for default setting the AutoRenew in a hidden menu that is hard to find.
Yes, I tried a formal complaint..

My local distributor is telling me that Garage magazine and Traditional Rod & Kulture are now Quarterly publications. Anyone know if this will be the case? Don't mind waiting for either one, just curious (not bi-curious).

It's not so much the $20 bucks that I lost, I've been screwed out of $20 before and I'm sure it will happen again. It's the fact that there are six pages dedicated to this thread and that many people have been screwed. There is a thread dedicated to bad sellers in the cl***ified section, and people have been flamed there for a lot less than what is going on with Garage.

The worst part in my opinion is that you go to their website and on their homepage is a link to Jalopy Journal. Let's get people to give their $$$$ and then come over to the HAMB and get F$%#ed some more...I don't think so.
So Yeah...we are taking it pretty hard. Wanna buy some stock in Enron???

So... now it's my fault? Come on man...

In no way am I a consumer watch dog or a cop man. There isn't much I can do other than send Stoner another link to this thread.

Insinuating that I am part of some greater plan (or in any way responsible) for taking dough from people is insulting... and pisses me off. I work hard to take care of the people here and you will NEVER read a thread like this about The Jalopy Journal or the HAMB... That, I can promise.

Ryan,
I am in no way saying or even implying that you or the HAMB is involved with any of this. If that is how you interpreted what I wrote, I apologize to you. I feel that this forum is for guys/gals that love cars and I believe that the majority of us are good on our word and that when a wrong has been done, we should be able to call that person on it.

With all the problems that have been ***ociated with Garage, I would hate for someone to lose $20 and then feel that Jalopy Journal is in some way ***ociated with them other than just being a link on their homepage.

I also believe that we as consumers have the right to ***** and complain if we haven't received a service that we paid for, albeit, this may not be the appropriate place/forum to discuss our differences...but it happened.

The HAMB is a great place and I am not insinuating anything different. I just hate to see people screwed out of their/my cash.

stoner or jesse have not updated anyone in awhile if your reading this please update us again. i really don,t think any of us think your trying to rip us off but my concern now after this long do you even have a account of who even payed for there sub's cuz that would be nice to know if the people who payed are even on your list. cuz it sounds like you had a bunch of **** up's deal with this before . so how about a phone number cuz no one is answering your e-mails over there i mean come on if you want to keep this mag going you better let us know cuz were the cats out here buying this thing. one more thing if there is something we can do to help you along with this problem let us know i can't speak for everyone but i think we would help in anyway we could

Sorry Ryan,

I didn't read it the way you did at all either.

I took it as him trying to say sumthin like "after all the effort and time that you guys spend protecting and enforcing the CREDIBILITY of the HAMB.....reacting VERY quickly to caution, and then stop threads.....but nearly ALWAYS with a reasonable, unbiased explaination as to why the thread was poo-pooed......it would be a shame if some new guy's first experiences were buying a subscription which was never met, then followed THEIR link over to the HAMB"

Its YOUR M***IVE commitment to credibility and independence that he seems to be trying to be protective of.

As for the subscription debacle -

Your $20 bucks is GONE !!!!!!!!!!!

The fastest way they could make it up to everyone is put a GREAT FUKKIN mag back on the newstand for everyone to buy....

......and IF they have an accurate list of subscribers, just send them an apology that subscriptions have been indefinately postponed, as well as a postcard thanking them for the loyalty and financial commitment they showed to support the early growth of a GREAT mag....and these postcards might be worth a fortune (certainly more than $20) at swapmeets in 20 years when its the most sought after rag on the newstand.

Thanks Mark... That is the way that I meant it. The HAMB is legit and I would like to think that 99.9% of the people are also and I would hate for someone to have a tainted view of it because of a bad experience elsewhere.
