Thanks Kevin. I am really getting into making this stuff. As nice as all the bolt-on stuff is thats out there, I want something unique. Rear of the frame is finished off. Started and finished the taillight stands today. Just finished getting them cleaned up for chrome too. Got the stubborn exhaust manifolds off the motor...going to try and get it cleaned up and painted this weekend so I can drop it back in the chassis and get the body back on to finish the doors and run the exhaust.
Well, I missed the Decatur swap meet, the inaugural Texas Thaw, and my birthday dinner.....but I did get the engine and trans painted and assembled and in the car permanently (I hope). Totally worth it. Guess I'll be using the 3 speed instead of the 4 I'd planned. I also discovered that one of my rear wheels is severely tweaked...theres nothing quite like wasting money powdercoating a bent wheel. At least I know where some extras are to replace it.
Looks great! You might want to look at the steering box mount before you paint the frame. I did the mount on my car the way you did and it cracked along the weld on the front. I redid it with a plate down to the bottom of the frame and so far (4 years) no problem. My frame was not boxed.
Awesome! Looking at your chassis is like a mini sneak peek for me of my chassis. Red oxide, a little chrome, a little aluminum, some black etc..... Looking really cool, you gotta be really excited at this point!
It cracked on the weld at the front plate at the frame, or the weld where the front plate meets the side plate? My frame is square tube so it might be a bit stronger than unboxed rails. Thanks for the info...I'll keep an eye out! I expect some stuff like that to pop up, so it would get painted for a while. Thanks! I'm excited....but more nervous about my deadline. 5 weeks left! Maybe I'll get it fired up next weekend.
I started to. Never got past this stage, and the modified has turned out a bit different (proportion wise). Last update this weekend, for those still watching... Nothing new here, just rolled it outside for some better pictures. Started on the bracket for the slave cylinder. I'm planning on running another bolt through the side of it and into the hole where the clutch z-bar pivot would have been. Hopefully it will be strong enough. Finished up some welding and a bunch of detail stuff on the bottom side. Then had Dad come over and help put the body back on. Now I can get the firewall finished, and start on the dash and doors. Lookin' great! You may have covered this already, but what are you gonna run for a fuel tank? Is it going between the body and rear crossmember? I dig your truck, too. I have one similar to it, lowered about the same. Malcolm
Thanks! Plan A was a modified Model T tank....the one I have is too rusty. Plan B was to make one completely from scratch....I have no time for figuring that out and making it happen how I want it. So on to plan C...going to make one of these work. Not the prettiest thing in the world but I can work with it. It will sit right behind the body and in front of the rear crossmember.

Wow, that's really flipping all the right switches! .....and no, that's not a euphemism for anything other than, it's really coming out NICE.
Yeah....they even make one that's 34" wide (almost a perfect fit), and that sits upright. Something to think about....but I have since kinda gotten my heart set on a one-off handmade tank to fit perfectly between the framerails. I've already got the other one on the way...I don't think it will be too out of place back there. Also, the Tanks inc. tank is baffled, and holds 3 extra gallons. It's going to be semi-temporary anyway.
