I know breathing mouse poop can cause health problems. Today I was in a 55 Chevy I'm dismantling and she has her share of mouse poop. Since I am not keeping the car but for some parts, I don't want to take the time to clean it out. What do you guys do? Wetting it down might help maybe, kinda like dealing with asbestos...
wear a mask like the kind doctors do. you can get them at paint supply stores. a respirater would be better, but the thin mask over your mouth and nose will help. they are cheap to.
the breathing of the dust from mouse poop from some infected mice can cause hantivirus, which can be deadly. wetting it down is probably a good thing.
crazy timing because i just shopvac'ed about 3 gallon of rat **** out of a chevy body about a hour ago. these turds were big ****ers. i should have took pictures first, now its just a clean floor. anyway i wore a dust mask and i'm not dead yet, maybe it'll take a while
Yeah, I put on a dust mask, but those things make me sweat like when you can't remember if you tightened all your rod bolts or not. Believe me, you don't want to see this thing...she's a four door anyway. It will donate it's complete dash, and nose to hang on my wall.
Wetting it down only makes it WORSE !! If there is PooP.... There is Pee, And if you wet it down it will Re~Moisturise it all & it will stink & then it will STICK to you ! Take the time & Vac it out ir at least Broom it... Or if its still outside Blow it out with compressed air if you have it available.
i would wear a respirator with dust filters. i can never get those particle mask jobs to work right, they always seem to leak somewhere. if you do vacuum it up get a really good filter for that too or you will just be spreading fine mouse **** particles all over the place. john
Hantavirus caused by mouse droppings will kill you. Be very careful. A good mask will certainly help. Wetting it down keeps the dust down and the particles won't become airborn. I am always pulling in cars and they come from fields. Deer mice are supposed to be the worst offenders. Pat.
I dont think that a once in a while event is gonna effect you. There is bat **** which is worse in our shop. I go down there almost evey nite for a couple of hours and do not where a mask and I think Im OK. I cover my mouth and nose when I blow the shop out though or when I sweep fat the end of the nite
If you are in doubt, spray the whole area down with bleach. This will kill any virus if present. The urine carries it as well as the droppings. Flatman
http://www.hantavirus.net/info3.html A guy in our car club died of HPS (hantavirus), and it is not a nice way to go. From now on when i do **** like that I wear a proper gas mask with replaceable filters. I'm not trusting my life with one of those cheap dustmasks. David
Wear a respirator. I got very sick while working at a lumber yard, we were pulling out the old warehouse racking that had dried bird **** everywhere, next day I had a 104 fever when I got to the hospital, spent 2 days there and got permanent scarring in my lungs.
I just drug in a stash of 235 parts packed in Ra**** ****. Sure wish I had a flunky to p*** this job onto
Well, here is something I can actually contribute to! Having been an animal husbandry person for many years, I can tell you that the respirator the replaceable filters is the only real way to go with this. Especially if you are workin in a closed-in environment - garage.
When I first found my 48 Cadillac I took it straight to the boys at Crushproof (well ,I took the frontend off and carwashed it) they drew straws, Ed lost, put on the respirator and pulled three 55 gallon drums of cat,rat and bat Hazmat out of it..they are alot younger and tougher for that job, besides I've had my share of nasty clean-ups...when we were young Boy Scouts and used to go camping at the Reeh Ranch on Cibolo Creek (now the Bat Conservatory project, one of the largest bat caves in the country) we used to hike over to the cave at sunset, go down into the mouth and stand there as a few million bats parted waves around you as they flew out, standing ankle deep in bat poop..and I'm still around and kickin....

This disease agent occurs naturally throughout most of North and South America; it is airborne, and in the absence of prompt medical attention, its infections are usually fatal. This disease is called Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS). It can affect anyone, but given some fundamental knowledge, it can also be very easy to prevent. </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
